I am currently in planning my system I have thought about either getting 3-12w3v2's or 1 13w7. I will power each one of those setups with a JL 1000/1. I emailed JL Audio and this was there responce
The 13W7 will have a great amount of bass output. Tuned properly in the right vehicle the output could be similar to 3 12w3's. We have not tried it but there is a good chance that it could. Thanks for your interest in JL Audio.

But that really doesn't tell me much accepct that it would be the same. Now I need help in planning what you think?

I voted for the 13w7, currently, I have 2 12" w7's running off 1 1000x1 jl amp. I love the low notes those subs hit and the power they give off. You might have to upgrade your alternator, not sure though. But, still, I say go with the 13
....
My dad works for sound advice here in south florida, he recently installed 4 13" w7's with 4 1000x1s powering each sub. He installed them in a tahoe. OMG its insane, the tahoe has 3 alternators and (4) batteries i think. Its sick, gives you an instant headache when the bass hits.
IMO go for the 1 13!

You're going to get rattle with jl's no matter what really. I dynamatted my entire trunk, and the inside deck, and I still get rattles. Rattling goes along with having a system IMO. You can't really eliminate rattle, but you can reduce it alot.
Which other companies have you considered? There are far better products on the market for the money.
But if I had to choose one of these setups, I'd take the 3 w3's. The SQ will be at least on par with the W7, and the SPL should at least match, if not surpass it. Plus you get the multiple sub impact. (It's almost always more impressive to see more subs)
I'd still look at some other options though.

Ha. You've not even scratched the surface of the fine subs available on the market. Check out some of these companies for serious subs.
Adire Audio (Brahma, or Tulmut series)
Digital Designs (95, or 99 series)
Image Dynamics (IDMAX)
Resonant Engineering (HC, or XXX series)
The list could go on forever. The models in parenthesis are reccomendations to take on the W7, the lower models by these companies will definately give the W3 a run for the money.
If you'd like some more suggestions, that was just what I pulled off the top of my head.

Perhaps I should elaborate.
DD's drivers were purpose built to first be SQ drivers. But the fact that they're bulletproof, and can handle indeterminable amounts of power does lend them quite well to SPL comp cars. Just like the W7, they were built SQ first, and SPL came as a nice happy add on.
And if you don't believe in the SQ, you don't know DD's drivers. They're some of the cleanest, tightest drivers on the market. With dual, triple, and even quad spider suspensions available, does it make sense to say it's a SPL driver? Why would you want all that extra resistance to extension if all you were doing was burping? You don't need the kind of control multiple spiders offers for SPL, you need it for SQ.

Hard to hear SQ when a speaker is in a 6 cubic foot box.
