So I'm finally finished with all my BS final's and have the time to work on all the things I want to do to my car. Here's where I need help:
1. I have 24 sq ft of Dynamat that I'm using to cover the rear dash, the trunk and the front doors. The front doors is where I need help. Is it okay to just tear out that plastic crap and cover the entire door with the Dynamat? Also, the interior part of the door has that styrofoam piece. Do I need to leave that on and cut a whole for it in the Dynamat, and remount that plastic cup?
2. I'm installing components. Where's a good place to mount the tweeters and the crossovers? I went to the dealer today, looking for the LS OEM sail panel's that have tweeter mounts already, and they said they were in the A-pillars, and I could get them for $30 a side. Would that be easier?
3. Should I amp the components (if I can afford it) with a 50x2 Pioneer amp? Or will it sound fine of my HU in the meantime (check my ride profile)?
Anyone that has any pics, PLEASE post them here of amp installs under the seats, crossover locations, and tweeter positions.
THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP!

first off, definitely amp the components. look where i mounted my tweeters, honestly there is no better place although some may argue with me (they are wrong). they wouldn't put them there stock if it wasn't a good place for them. i mounted my crossovers next to my amp. you could put them under the dash, in the door, wherever you want. i put them in the trunk to show them off, plus they have a 3 or 6 dB cut on them and i wanted access to that feature.
as for mounting them, it's not hard. just take the a pillar off (it just pops out), cut a whole (you can cut with a utility knife, it's just weak plastic), and mount the tweeter there. if you don't feel that handy, buy the pillars with the mount pre-installed. i just like doin stuff myself.
as for the dynamat, youd on't need to cover the whole door. all it does really is add weight and stiffness to reduce reverberations. just slap some on where it won't get in the way. if you find you need more after listening, pop off the door and add another strip.
you can look at my registry for pics of my setup.

thanks for the advice cup. i do like the a-pillar mount, but i also like to be able to park and open my doors up to listen to music at the beach for example, which kinda limits me to the tweeter in front of the door handle, or in that sail panel piece.
decisions, decisions...

i can't talk enough about compression horns. my friend has a pair of image dynamics horns powered by a 100 watt amp, they are probably getting maybe 25w each. he's got a stang convert. and we parked it on one side of the football stadium parking lot. we walked to the other side (maybe 400 yards+ away) and we could still hear the music clearly and accurately, and it was even pretty loud. they have a freq. resp. down to about 500Hz. incredible. also pretty expensive.

jk cup. yeah, compression horns rock. that's what i have now for my coaxial tweeters. i really wish the one didn't short out. i think it was the crossover or something.

be creative
my friend has them installed in his stang, took out the glove box on one side and on the driver side it is above his feet. this is about the only place they could be installed without cutting up the dash. even though it's not perfect for imaging, these things are so ****ing loud they don't have to be. they seriously are the most amazing things i've ever heard.
just to be warned, those compression horns go for $600-700. they are ONLY for serious stereo installers and audiophiles.
i couldn't be happier with my mb quarts. in the future i will give them more power, and more power to the sub. for now, ear bleeding is good enough

That is what I think of cups suggestions...Compression horns are probably the most intense listening experience you will ever get *IF* you set them up the right way!! You can get them as a component set from Image Dynamics with a crossover that is designed to help the peaks and dips that the horns have. I would suggest using a 30 band eq with them because of the peaks and dips that are too large to compensate with a crossover and "a well trained ear" will know that they don't sound that good without the eq's. I have them on top of the dash support bar in my car, getting ready to fiberglass a new dash!! I use JL XR650's for the midbass in my doors and amp them with a JL 300/4, front channels to the horns, rear channels to the 650's.
