Need help with audio install. Experienced installs only please.
Very understandable, they ARE a pain in the butt to install if you don't have experience! As far as conventional components I would try to stay as far away from glass as possible, too many reflections at various frequencies that color the sound. That is why I don't agree with cup on the pillar mounts!! If you want good imaging as well as sound then custom kick panel install would be your best bet but if good sound with ****ty imaging then go with what you are thinking with the mid in the door and the tweet also in the door, keep in mind also that you shouldn't really be more than 12-18" from the mid for phasing, that will help with your imaging and that fact that a lot of people think that it sounds "tinney" when they are further away from the mid!!
i have my tweeters in the sail peice as you call it and let me tell you it sounds just great. I have the tweeters tilted in there so they face me. While I respect Cup's opinion and believe me he is an expert, i believe that either location is good. and yes put an amp on your components. I have my crossover hidden in the door, though not the most optimal for tuning I tuned it then placed it in.
my tweeters aren't facing the glass. treble is directional. there would be no reflections off the glass because they are facing into the cabin. if you put them in the kick panel they are completely blocked by you and your passenger's body. treble doesn't travel through solid objects, so in that respect ALL you would hear is reflections in the kick panel. my tweeters sound just fine where they are. i would never ever ever describe them as sounding ****ty, and the imaging is perfect. i've even ran a test cd and it sounds better than my home stereo, including height and depth.
you don't need a 30 band EQ to make the ID horns sound good. a 10 band EQ would be good enough. EQ's add distortion to a system anyway. anything you connect to a signal adds distortion, even speakers add distortion to a signal. my headunit comes with a 7 band eq, so in that respect the signal is processed before it is transmitted, adding zero distortion.

Hey cup, I highly doubt that your car stereo sound better than your home stereo, unless your home stereo sucks ***!! Nothing personal I just don't share your opinion
and if you don't think you have reflections then your sadly mistaken
I am so impressed with your HU's capability to have zero distortion, what *** did you pull that out of??

lets not start a flame war, but to keep it on topic, I put my tweets in the door, not the a-pillar bcoz I was lazy, they are ear bleedin' loud, amp 'em, you won't regret it. what HU are you using? I've got a dead head...so it needs an amp, but I can't imagine a decent stereo w.out amped components.
[EDIT:] I ck'd your profile, the pioneer doesn't really put out that good of power( I returned mine for that very reason, same one), amp the components

Typically it is best to go with a HU with preouts for the best quality sound. Tweets, as cup stated, are directional. The location Cup chose (A-Pillars) ,Guru Del chose (mirror cubby), and tweets located in front of the door handle are great locations as long as the tweets can be positioned/swiveled towards the cabin, as each of these locations accomplish. The middle of the door would not be good for staging. The best metaphor I have for staging is to picture yourself at a concert. Direct sound comes from in front of you while the indirect comes from behind and the sides as reflections. To get that concert feeling (sound), you would place your mids and highs in front of you, with the tweets having an unobstructed path. High freqs are the first to be absorbed and reflected by obstructions.

i was commenting on the fact that my headunit's EQ doesn't add distortion, as an inline EQ would. i didn't say that my headunit doesn't produce distortion, try reading next time.
i probably do get SOME reflections, big deal. better to have them ear level and unobstructed. the amount of "reflections" are negligable.
now on topic: sticks, you're 100% correct. treble is the first to get absorbed. that is why the most important thing in positioning them is having an unobstructed path. next you want to make sure they are equidistant (or as close as possible), and at a proper level (ear level or somewhat close).
the lower you go in the frequency range, the less important direction is, that's why it is ok to keep mid-bass drivers in the door. subwoofers can be placed anywhere convenient, because bass is omnidirectional.
this is all "optimal". this is not to say that if you put tweeters in the door, or in a kick panel, or somewhere else, it will sound like "****", some places may be better than others but overall as long as they are in listening range and you can hear the music, they'll do just fine. no one is trying to win a competition here, so put them wherever you feel comfortable installing them and having them in your car.
