piomeer make very reliable and cost minded product, however alpine has the cleanest sound there is short of spending $5000 on a head unit alone. check USAC and IASCA forums for what types of head units they use. most use an alpine. and so do i for that matter!! i work in a stereo shop and can choose whatever i want and i chose the alpine, so it's gotta tell you something

I really want that unit myself, but can never afford it.
Pioneer because of design.
Kenwood uses too small of buttons but they last forever.
I had a CD changer from Kenwood for 8 years in like 4 cars and it finally died when it just couldn't spin the disk anymore.

Im an alpine man myself. but for the best bang for your buck you might want to check out Rampages top of the line deck. Now dont flame me just because its rampage. This deck gives you just about every option you will ever need. Plus its only $150-350 depending on where you get it at. The only down side is that you have to manually push the screen back up after you put a cd in. FYI a friend of mine that placed second in his class at MECA finals last year just switched to this unit after testing many others. He used to use a pioneer but now swears by this unit.
i have the kenwood mpv7019. it pretty much kicks ***, and saves me a **** load of money on cds. i love the mp3/cd player, and it has 64 color variations so you can match whatever color scheme you are going for. got it for 250 on base
