Talking Just a little added security...

Hello Everyone,

I’m planning on getting a system installed in my car within the year, but I'm concerned because I live very close to the border, and have to park the car out in the open on a regular basis (work and school) and recently a friend of mine, (2002 SI) had the majority of his dash stolen outside a fast food restaurant. Anyways, I already have an alarm installed and I was wondering what people have done to make their security measures a little more effective...

Things I plan on doing are:

Disabling/hiding hood release (thieves pop the hood and disconnect siren)
Disabling/hiding trunk release (cant steal subs you cant get to!)
Putting all alarm wiring in OEMish wire covers (cant identify and snip alarm wires)
Wiring siren to work with stock horn (still have to research)
Adding a strobe system (headlights, taillights)
Adding a hidden switch for the ignition

Hope these ideas help anyone with security concerns, if anyone has any other ideas, post them up!

a few piezo sirens on the inside of the car... DEI makes the 513T which is 120db... a few in the interior and maybe 1 in the trunk... they wouldn't really want to deal with all the pain from those sirens.

With a properly installed alarm and battery back-up for the alarm, you shouldnt have to worry about it too much. Key word from previous sentence is PROPERLY. Those tiny little piezos are some loud sh@ts arent they!

Honestly, keeping everything of value outta sight is one of the best ways to detour thieves. Besides the car itself, they're looking to make a quick buck by pawning off your ****. So if it ain't visible, they'll not care to break in...

Yeah, everything goes in the trunk when i park anywhere for any length of time, plus i have pretty dark tint (5% in back, 20% up front) so they really have to get up close to the car to get any idea what is inside, and that always looks suspicious when someones all up on a car. I had my alarm installed with the backup battery so if they disconect the battery, it keeps going off, but the siren itself is easy as hell to disconect (just changing the headlight bulbs typically loosens the negative enough to stop it from working). Those peizos look pretty nifty, and not to expensive, so i'll probibly get some, one in the dash, and one in the trunk. anymore ideas? Thanks for the peizos suggestion LancerEva.

Dei also makes sirens with backup battery built in. Check ebay. I bought one and it works as advertised. It sounds a bit lazy but in the event, power is disconnected, it will go off for a while. You cant shut it up without the key.

umm, I wouldn't combine them with oem wires IMO and any alarm system computes to give your lights strobe effects

grab 2 of them for the dash... and aim them towards the middle of the interior... by the steering column facing out is about right. They'll be out of sight, but still wont have the reverb and deadening from the dash. Also, the LED status light... make sure it's bright.. blue is about the brightest. Make sure you can see it all around the car. I'm grabbing another one for the back shelf, they definately deter would be theives.

i always figured when a car has a lot of lights to show it has an alarm, it must have something valuable inside it. Sort of making sure the thieves know it has. might be wrong tho

most theives that just steal the valuable stuff out of the car aren't going to mess with it if they know it has an alarm... but if they are just desperate or a pro, an alarm wont stop them.

Yeah, my alarm has a blue light that is pretty bright (until I got the tint you could see it from across parking lots at night). I don’t intend to put alarm wires directly with oem wires, just put the plastic wire sleaving over the alarm wires to make it look oem, so if a thief looks for the wires to snip they wont be sure which ones. Probably would put the wiring for the sirens in the same sleaving to disguise those as well. As for the strobes, my alarm does make the headlights and the taillights strobe, but its slow and typical of most car alarms. Id like to put something that actually "strobes"... something like this... (http://streetglow.com/site/products.strobes.index.php) People couldn’t help but look at this, and I doubt any thief that cant shut it off in a few seconds would stick around with these going off, especially with those peizos going off right next to their head. And even if they do shut it off, I intend to have the system installed with Allen wrench type screws, just to make it that much more difficult to take anything out...

Anyone ever relocate their trunk release latch? I’m thinking just under the seat would be easiest.

Damn!! I already see that it's not worth it. Hide your sub with your spare, and relocate your radio(hide it)

Thats all I can tell you. Your going to end up spending more money on security than the system is worth.

I would keep the alarm, do that back=up battery for it. and hope lol.

Alarms are really not much these days. They go off everyday and people don't seem to care. They are just like "eh"

But, if you have the money, those are great ideas. Seems to be a big waste of it, but it's all your $$$

p.s. All I did with my system, was Alarm, and shaved the trunk key hole. You could probably do that. But shave the doors as well. IDK to be honest, sorry I couldn't help alot
