Talking pic of my new box

here's the box for my 15" brahma, which i don't own yet. but, the box is at least basically done. i just have to slap in the terminal cup and caulk the edges to make sure its TOTALLY sealed. but, aside from that, its basically done. 1.89 cubic feet. HUGE.

Heh... 1.89ft^3... yeah... huuuuuge (just bustin)

Looks like a decent box, but I'd advise against terminal cup if you haven't already drilled out the hole. The reason being, with a large gauge wire, and a lot of power a terminal cup just adds a choke point, and with a terminal cup, you've also got one more point that could leak. A simple solution is to just drill a hole, slightly larger than the wire (make it pretty tight, so you've gotta force the wire) then caulk it up after the wire is inside and the proper length.

Also depending on how you plan on covering the box, this option sometimes looks the cleanest, and unlike a terminal cup, this will never come unscrewed and short out

wow, thanks for that advice, never woulda thought of that. and, no, i have not yet drilled a hole for terminal cups. i know 1.89 isn't very big at all. but, it takes up half my damn trunk but, in an SUV or somethin, the box would be small. thanks again though for that tip, i'll definetly try that!

Or a Horizon. We had a box for 3 15 L7's and it was 26.8 cubit feet with the port being 16.9 cubic feet. Given the back end was almost on the ground and it started right behind the b pillar.

But it should look good. Do you plan to carpet it or anything? I would also advise drilling a hole and then caulking it. That way there is no air leakage around the cap either.

i plan on either buying some liquid nails to seal all the edges inside the box as to make it air tight. as for covering it, i don't think i'm going to carpet it. i might just leave the raw MDF finish, or i might just spray paint it black or grey, then clear coat on top just to make it look a little finished.

Don't go the liquid nails route. Get some caulking. Just the regular $2 a tube door and window caulk. Liquid nails can be used for assembly, and aids in sealing, but where your box is already together, skip it and just purchase a tube or 2 of some clear caulking.

And if you plan on painting, do yourself a favor and get some wood filler. Use it to fill in the seams and screw heads. You'll thank me later

(Oh yeah... my daily system is a 3.75ft^3 box)

Did you have a little accident with an exploding can of yellow?

Seriously though, looks like a nice, clean job. How many coats of black? And how many coats of clear are you gonna hit it with?

And please, please tell me you're not using drywall screws to mount the sub... It better be T-nuts and machine screws all the way.

And grab about a pound, maybe a pound and a half of pillow stuffing (really cheap at the wal*mart in the crafts section) and toss it in there before you mount the sub. You'll dig it.
