pic of my new box
And to answer Bobaab's question
To test your box, put your sub in it, play something, and feel around for air leaks. Check all the joints, where the wires are run, and especially around the sub. A leaky box won't kill a sub instantly, but it will over time so check and double check.

painting process:
1. coat of grey primer
2. coat of black
3. coat of black
4. speckled on yellow lightly while black was still kinda wet and got a really cool/odd greenish effect
5. x'ed the greenish effect and sprayed all sides yellow
6. speckled random spots of black
7. one coat of clear coat so far
8. tomorrow second coat of clear coat will be applied.
and, no sir, i am NOT going to use drywall screws. gonna go to home depot and pick up some T-nuts and screws for that puppy. no way in hell will i degrade a Brahma to the low level of drywall screws!
question though: what exactly will the pillow stuffing do/help me with?
thanks again for all your help and suggestions, hank

whoa, i wouldn't pillow stuff that box. stuffing makes the box act on the sub as if there was more cubic feet. so unless your breasts are too small, don't stuff. and by breasts i mean box.
Coda, coda, coda... Have we learned nothing?
Pillow stuffing the box doesn't miraculously add extra cubic feet to the box, nor does it make the sub act as it were in a larger box. It helps to alleviate standing waves, and bad harmonics caused by the general "squareness" of the box.
Sharp corners = Bad for sound.
There are a lot of theorys on it, but in actuality, it's just meant to keep the box from sounding like ****. (look at any quality built home speakers, you can bet your *** there's sound deadening in there, and it's not to stop rattles either)
Way to go Lance... you're well on your way to building a nice, low tuned, ported box that'll make that Brahma really shine

My point was that once you start building boxes, you're not gonna stop with sealed. Sometimes the fabrication process is more fun than actually listening to the box. (especially when you F up a measurement and tune the box really high) And once you properly port a box, you'll never go back to sealed (space permitting of course)
Then, if you enjoy porting, look into some of the more advanced box styles for some crazy sounds. (Might want to pick up some cheapo small subs for experiments) My personal favorites are ABC boxes, Transmission Line, 1/4 wave, and folded horn. (not all styles that would work well in a car... and you end up with some LARGE boxes)
Just something to think about

yea, that's what i thought you were talkin about when you mentioned a ported box. but, honestly, the whole process has been a great experience and a lot of fun. just from the initial cuts to the painting process. i'm definetly looking forward to making more.
