Regretting tweeter installation; suggestions needed!
Regretting tweeter installation; suggestions needed!
Ever since the day I installed my new Polk db components, I have regretted not testing different tweeter positioning before I drilled the holes.
As you can see from the attached pic, I placed them in the doors, in the lower corners of the woofers. Now the reason why I chose this location was because I wanted the sound to come from one general direction for better imaging. But after listening to the setup for a good few months, I've come to realize that I made a big mistake by not placing the tweeters higher up, because my legs are blocking the tweeter path to my ear on the driver's side (so all the treble sounds like it's too far off to the right and it's driving me nuts)!
Anyhow, what I want to do is relocate the tweeters to by testing different positionings to see what sounds best to me, however there's one problem; the 1.5" diameter gaping hole that's gonna be left in my doors!
So my question is: how hard is it to find some new interior door panels (so far no luck w/eBay.)? If I had to buy them from the dealer, how much would it cost me? Or does anyone have some suggestions for covering up the tweeter holes?
Thanks for the help guys.

Send me your door panels and I will make them look as factory as possible and hide the hole for you. Of course, I will need some money for materials and shipping, but it is alot cheaper than having to buy new panels. PM me if you are interested.

Well I decided to remount the tweeters to the A-pillar, on the edge not facing the window, so that they're pointed towards me, and an equal distance to my ears as the woofers are (so that the phases don't get thrown out of whack). At this point all I can say about the imaging is "WOW! What a difference!!!"
I've sent you a PM, NevSat, and I might take you up on the offer if the price is right. Otherwise, I'm considering buying the cheapest tweeters I can find to use as "dummies" in place of the old location.

Use double sided 3M tape to try different positions for the tweeters until you're happy...then drill. I've got a tweeter in the door trim, near the handle directed toward me; then another in the pillar tilted toward the passenger's left ear. Of course, this same setup on the opposite side. One of these days I'll get that 6-ch amp I've aways wanted!
