amplifier question
hello, i've already questioned this to other thread but no answers were made.
anyways, here is my question if anyone could answer..
i'm planning to buy an amp for my 4 channel speakers..
all of 4 speakers are 50 watts RMS and 250 peak power.
i've researched some amps for 4 channel but.. if the amp supports any rms over 50watts, can i use it? like 70watts RMS X 4
or do i have to get an exact rms support which is 50 watts? (50watts RMS x 4)
thanks

hey guys, i got an amp which is 75w rms x 4 ch for my speakers.
i went to circuit city to install it but they said the headunit only supports 2 channel amp.. but i'm hearing from all 4 speakers.. it didn't make sense to me.
can someone explain why they can't install the amp?
my current head unit is Pioneer DEH-1900
here's the specification.

when you go down the page.. where it saids..
Audio Features
RCA Preouts ------- 1 pair (rear)
RCA Preouts.. do i need 2 pairs of RCA?
or is that pair of RCA only supports 2 channel?
confused o_O

As far as I know you need a pair of RCAs for 2 speakers. 2 channels, 2 cables, thusly stereo sound. I doubt there's some sort of splitter to allow for 4 speakers.
One idea though would be to just power your front speaker with your amp, and then just plug your rear speakers into your headunit.
I've read a lot that rear sound stage actually hurts the front sound stage in many cases. But then again you're never gonna sit in the back of your car and at least your friends who do will have some kind of sound.
If you go this route you may want to just get a 2ch amp instead of your 4ch amp.
I've been known to be wrong before though <_<

Make sure to research more or wait for some more opinions.

no no, you just use a "y" connector and input that into the amp. OR the amp itself may have a 2 or 4 channel input option. that is so you dont have to use the "y" connector.
Or you can just connect 2 line out converters. one for the fronts, and one for the rears, then just plug the rcas into the converters. It's cake and should only cost $40-$50
