i take it off if i have to park outside, or at a theater or mall or something. do not put it in your glovebox though. i did that and they broke into my car, ripped out my HU and opened up the glovebox and took my faceplate! what a trajedy.

No. Because I'm lazy but also if some see you actually detach it, they think it's worth more or you've got other equipment and break in anyway. And some just don't care if it's detached or not since a lot of people just put them in the glovebox or under the seat. When my car was broken into, I actually had the faceplate taken off but it didn't seem to matter.

I have an eclipse H/U so I am not worried..they don't look the greatest but 3 cars all around mine were broken into and had their H/U's stolen at my old apt complex and mine wasn't even touched...whew

yes, mine goes with me. as far as it being difficult for a thief to pull out of your dash, one word, crowbar. i had a HU stolen out of my truck and they ****ed up my dash so bad, sob. so i put a 130db siren under the dash inside and a couple of strobes hidden near the a-pillars. hopefully will make it uncomfortable for them to stay inside long enough to pull it. dont forget backup batteries for your alarms guys, there cheap. plan on doing this all to the evo too next week.

I remove the face plate everytime I get out of the car simply because I'm from NYC, and I'm paranoid. I'm skurd that people will steal my stuff..

unless i'm coming right back, i always take the hu face off. a blank deck will draw a lot less attention.

You should also look in to the stealth head units. Where the front of the raido flips and goes all black. Won't stop people from stealing your stuff just a little harder to see what you have.

tint your windows people! limo tint! nobody'll see what you got then. i don't have an aftermarket H/U in my Lancer but my mom's caravan and my dad's jag have one's w/ removeable face plates. we never really take them out. i did it once just to be random.

I had my alpine stolen from my eclipse, it had no face on it (face was at home) and they left the alpine wiring harness. so it was just a deck. i stil have the face actually...

problem with limo tint is its illegal up front. so you might not get your hu stolen, but you might get a ticket.
