Best overall brand can not be pin-pointed. I can name hundreds of brands that have top competition quality and sound. I can however suggest brands to stay away from. I do have some favorites as well. I like Re Audio/US Amps, Cadence, and Power Bass and push them in my shop. Send me a PM and I can help you out.
also a question to add:
is it possible to install a amp+sub on our OEM head unit? i got mix results and i really hope there's some expert who can clear this out... supposely we share same head unit as people with S&S package (no navi), why can't we also install an amp and sub the same way as S&S?

You can install an amp and subs with the factory, non-nav deck. I had a 980 Watt Power Acoustik amp with two Kicker CVR 12's installed with the factory stereo. I had it done at Best Buy and they only had to use a couple of adapters to hook it all up. Hope that helps!
i got one 13" JL Audio sub in box built to specs with one 500/1 series amp. i have to keep the amped turned down all the way its so much bass. shakes the whole car, makes the windshield wipers bounce. make shure u get a cap. too cause the lancer has low power output.
How good your sound system can be is solely dependant on how much you have to spend. State your budget and people will be more able to point you in the right direction.

i have 2 Kicker L7 12s and an MA Audio 1000 watt competition mono block amp (TRUE 1000 watts!) and i only paid about 700 bucks for everything. my system is hella loud, i have to keep the amp gain at 50%, and i also need to get a cap and about 3 layers of sound deadening all over my car! haha mostly the trunk though
Go to www.caraudio.com they could definitely give you some good advice there.
this is a bad *** system
1. head unit brands like sony and pioneer and kicker
2. 12" speakers like 200o watt per speaker wid the big magnets 15" are arite but not too good for bass
3.2500 watt kicker amp with 2000 watts for vocals
4. pioneer equalizer
dats not all i could go on forever but that would be a really loud system vor you it would more than disturb the peace but you know you have to change all your mid range speakers (speakers for vocals) if you are gonna go for a big system anyway buddy you could reply me if you want more info
