speaker questions
When you pul the HU out, unhook the harness, look where the wires are going and try to pull on them a bit to give you more room to work.
As far as putting a new wire in, you'll see it's not that hard.
Skin the hedge of the new wire and just tap in the harness. Looking straight at the harness, you can tap in the first two pins on the left.

cup, it seems as though you may think I have an amp hooked to my speakers. the only amp I have in my car is for my subs, my speakers are just running off the HU. I've never wired speakers before, so blaze_125's suggestion will take me til tomorrow night at the earliest to figure out, even if I have the wire in plain sight. it's not a matter of getting to the wiring, it's a matter of figuring out how I'm going to reach the wires behind the HU. I can barely reach them to plug them into my HU, let alone see what the hell they are...I dunno how the person who put it in there managed...

this is gonna sound really simple, but how do you unhook the harness? seems stuck on there, but do you just pull? I can't see any screws (or think of a screw driver that would fit in there easily)...I have a kenwood kdc-419 if that matters (not that I think it would)
