Question looking for custom sub box info

i was just talking with a friend of mine today, and he was telling me about a new style of ported sub box. its a custom build (or so it sounds) that has wave guidance channels on the interior of the box.

the end result is supposed to be amazing. i'm pretty sure i heard one a few years back, where one 10 hit like 2 12s. it was really impressive.

does anyone have any links or info about how to build one of these heavy hitting boxes? i really want to up the thump in my ride, but don't want to give up the trunk space.

thanks in advance.

Did you ask any of the local stereo shops? Around here there is a chain of stores call cartoys..... this probably does not help you at all....

haven't asked any local shops yet... most usually aren't too keen on just handing out building plans i'm sure.

i think when i asked way back when, they said alpine had the instructions with some of their subs. can anyone verify this?

No, most shops dont like handing out free info, but maybe they will say a name or company where they get there info from, then you can do a search.............

This sounds sorta lke what Bose does to shrink their speakers - they have channels that are designed to really acoustically support the speaker and make it stay very focused in sound. I don't know how to do it myself though, as I'm guessing it would require a good deal of knowledge of acoustics to calculate to the degree that they do.

actually if you get a box built to the specs of your sub, then it will hit perfectly. a friend of mine built me a box for my 2 alpine type r's and it is beautiful, the bass is clean and clear and it hits 3 times better than the box i had them in before. just look to see how much air space is needed and add the displacement to it. take into account for each sub if using more than one. there are also 2 types of boxes to go with sealed and ported. if you need more info pm me, i will be happy to help

The sub box you are talking about is callled a transmission line box it is big and bulky i recomend a sealed box it is smaller and has the best response curve

That may or may not be a transmission line box. There is a (pardon the pun) "new wave" in box building. A mystical magical box called the "Snail Shell Box" and while it looks like a TL it's not. There are a select few that know how to build them, and right now they're not telling their secrets either.

As such, I'm not exceptionally well educated in this style of box, but from what I've seen, and heard from these boxes I can tell you that they're quite nice. They gain about +9dB over a sealed box (you'll precieve about 3x as loud)

The only people that really know what's up (there are a few that seem to be starting to get an inkling of how it works... but no solid leads yet) are at www.powered4sound.com They'll build you one and ship it out. Give them a try, but as I've never dealt with them personally, I can't give you any word on how quickly or efficiently they operate. Either way, their boxes straight up ROCK.

yeah like tfnoel said waveboxes are bigger and they do hit like hell and would probrably be more bulky than a single sealed inclosure i've got 3 10" fosgate dvc's in a sealed box and they hit lovely but i did sacrifice trunk space to get them there if you check out my registry pic of my trunk you can see the size of the box i had it made by a buddy of mine who owns his own stereo shop by the way the 10" are for sale
