so I thought i would start off by doing a review of the Scosche kit. Pics will come hopefully tomorrow (I left my camera cable in daytona beach).
The first thing I said to myself with this kit was quite literally "Wow, this is going to be an amazing kit!" and I said that because it actually came in a cardboard box, instead of a bag like the Metra kit. That was plus #1, and I hadn't even opened it yet! When I opened it, the color/texture matched OEM MUCH more than Metra, so that was plus #2. Plus #3 was the fact that the pocket included (I have a single DIN) is taller than the Metra pocket, and sturdier, because it is actually screwed on from the back. I also liked the fact that it came with all new plastic clips, the ones that always tend to fall off when you pull the dash off
, so that was plus #4, for having its own clips! Wow, 4 positive marks just upon visual inspection. For installation, you are required to use the brackets from the stock radio, which means to take the radio out, you must take the dash apart, AND unscrew the brackets from the car....but it does hold the radio in place a lot more sturdier, so thats a neutral fact IMO. Also, along the top of the kit there is NO gap at all, like the Metra, but that edge is a tad bit sharp to the touch, but I never put my hands up there anyways, so thats another plus for me. Although, one negative I have, is that those plastic clips that come with the kit make it very hard to get the dash piece BACK OFF, without losing at least one clip, or feeling like you are about to break something. Although, the fitment of the kit with the rest of the dash is amazing, and looks awesome! another plus!
So....
PROS
-packaging
-OEM look
-better pocket
-new plastic clips
-VERY good fitment
NEUTRAL
-OEM radio brackets required for installation
-sharp top edge
CONS
-seems VERY hard to get the kit back off, and makes you nervous when trying....
All in all, I say do NOT waste your time with the metra kit, especially since they are about the same price anyways. This may be a "Wal-Mart" brand, but it definitely outdoes the "Name" brand this time
Good luck!
(Pics coming soon)
