Right I understand that. I like the stuff but only one customer of mine has ever wanted MDF due to the price. Its not my prob if thats what they want. I just built my box out of what was left from everyone elses boxes and it happened that all I had was particle board. I never pay for materials lol. And my box is holding up fine so far, going on three years. You are right though. If you have the opportunity to build a box, do it right OP.

Hmm 65$ or 15$. 65$ or 15$? I think most people would take the 15. I can make two 12in boxes just like the one I have in my car out of a single 15$ sheet of particle board. Just dont get it wet. And yes your right, I cant afford gas cause Im laid off and barely have enough unemployment to support myself.

Its cool dude. I know what it takes to build a good box, and that MDF is the best stuff to use, but Im just trying to make people happy. I wish I could make them all out of MDF but sadly, people just want cheap. Sorry to be so snappy about it.

Lol. Ive applied at every fast food place in my town, Mcdonalds, burger king, carls jr, taco bell, arby's, subway, not to mention all the retail stores that are not hiring. Not a single call. And thats a HUGE step down. I was working in fiberglass for Monaco Coach Corp. so now that they are gone, Im pretty much effed in the A for income.

First off, your being bad for business. Lol Jk. Secondly, those are not custom made boxes built to spec. Those are boxes that you buy if you just want a box and throw it in. Alot of people want a custom box that fits their exact size and space requirements and is built to the subs spec. I bought a cheap 10in box from walmart for like 20 bucks made of MDF and my sub hated me. Rattled like ****, sounded like ****. No thanks. Built a box to the exact manufacturers specs and it sounded amazing.

Only box that even semi custom ive seen on ebay is a lancer box that holds two 12's is sealed and each chamber has .94 cubic. Its not cheap though as costs 170.00 shipped, much better to get custom box from Lancerman that is built to specs with both your car and your subs in mind.

Also, Dont forget highs and mids as it sounds real bad to have all bass but no words or etc. Other than that play attention to RMS not just Max and dont believe the cheap no name amps that claim to put out like 1000watts rms for 85 bucks, thats not clean wattage.

What do you mean by clean wattage? Obviously they arent putting out what they say but thats the same for any amp really. You are totally right if your referring to how quality the sound is though. You can really use any amp for a sub, the best being a class D monoblock amp of some sort, as long as your filtering out the highs your good to go. I usually set mine around 100hz and below. Let the door speakers pick up after that. For my system, Im running Pioneer reference series doors which sound absolutely amazing since they are powered by my 800X4 Infiniti amp. I cant stand a sound system that cant keep up with the subs. Just gives me absolute headaches. Thanks for the reference for me to build boxes. Lol. But Im sure there are a million other people who can build just as well as I can. Im learning how to build fiberglass enclosures now. Yay! I worked in fiberglass on 1.5 million dollar motorhomes for two years. Ive just gotta figure out the fabrication of building a fiberglass box a little. I want to be good at it before I start building them for people. I cant stand shoddy work. I love seeing all these plywood boxes with nails and screws sticking out of them that people bring to me. I saw one just the other day that some guy had taken a cabinet and cut a hole in it for his sub. Kinda stuck some nails in it to hold the door shut. Was not sealed. I loled for like a half hour about it. Then built him a good box.

Lancer,

Was basically saying dont believe whats on the Amp as they dont put out what they claim, some is distoted watts, many years ago a fellow explained it to me but I dont remember exactly as That was back in the days of USamps and Cerwin Vega Strokers LOL Dang Im getting old. Those USamps where good amps though.

Back in highschool I remember having 2 15" subs and factory doors lol, it sounded like rolling death, my next system though will probally be 2 12's in custom box, 6.5" in rear, 6.5" components in front, 2 amps and dynomatted interior and trunk.

Last System I had consisted of pioneer cd player, 2 15" subs, 6x9s in rear and 6.5 in front, alpine v12 amp and another alpine amp to push the subs, was very loud as it was in a tiny japanese kei van like one in pic below LOL.

Had many things done to that van but was in a country where labor was less than 5 dollars for a 12hr day, am in America now so would cost much more here due to labor.

Back to original question, do not try to rig your speakers up to your back seat with twist ties or etc, it will sound terrible , very terrible even. Just get a box made for your speakers , otherwise youll regret it. You know I have once seen a speaker just laying in trunk , not even rigged to back seat, guy couldnt afford a box, it sounded like noise but for whatever reason the owner seamed to like it si I just told him it sounded great and went about my die, had I told him it sounded bad he may have shot me.
