I'm thinking the subs and the box both are garbage. The only chance I will give this setup is sealing the ports and see if that makes it better. If all fails, I'll just use the amp to power my 6x9's and be happy with it.
ohh hmmm...could you see if the subs were even moving at all? try sealing those port holes like you said and see lol or try getting or borrowing a higher power amp for the subs.

I'm on to sealing it. Just had a look at the construction of the box and it's all stapled with no glue at all. So air was probably going through all the joints and THEN the ports. I'm sealing all joints on it and also the ports.

Just so I don't make it worse, should I seal one of the two ports per sub first?

just seal all the inside edges with silicone and cover all the ports by screwing down a piece of MDF over them, and seal them too from the inside. also, it might not sound the best because the box was made for ports, which means the volume is more than a sealed box would be.

I used the calculator that you linked me to earlier and it turns out, the volume of the inside of each portion would be best sealed. Of course, since I don't know my subs, I took specs from the subs that I like and may even get soon. I provided link in some earlier post for those pioneer 10 inchers.

Anyways, I did done sealed it all And I AM LIKING what I hear. It got dark so I didn't change any settings, so the amp is still at 250Hz, which I'll probably lower a bit but now I've got a lot more punch, quite significant bass and much more solid than before. I can tell the difference when I turn the amp on and off. No distortion at even higher bass and higher volume than before.

Now, I played different kinds of music, some R&B specially the songs I've been playing to test the system and it's all good. Here's a question though, after good half hour of running the system on my batteries, I touched the positive wire going to the amp and it was absolutely cool, then I checked the amp itself and it was warmish but from what I can tell, amp can get rather hot. Does this mean my amp and wiring is sufficient? Perhaps what I'm trying to ask is if I were to get those pioneers, would my amp run them? They are compatible specs-wise.

On the other hand, I kind of slipped my gun while putting a screw in the sub and made a hole in the lip part of the woofer But it's still running good.

glad to hear it! what do you mean on your batteries? do you mean without the car running? if you get new subs, make sure that if they are single voice coil they are 4 ohm, and if they are dual voice coil they are dual 2 ohm. those subs are 120 watts RMS...i suggest also getting a new amp just so you arent wasting the subs potential! a 250 watt RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm amp will work perfectly!

Thanks for the help! I've learned a lot but there's a lot more that I don't know.

So what should I get next, front speakers or new subs?

Subs: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=390065354429

Front Speakers: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=300330787602

My OEM fronts are barely making any noise with the whole setup. Before when I had all OEM stuff, my fronts were pretty much all there was to it but now they are too small as compared to the rest of the system.

I"m not sure how component works though, seems it comes with seperate tweeter and usually has a little box associated with it too?

that little box is a crossover. it separates the tweeter and woofer, making it sound better because their frequencies are heard better. its real easy to hook up, the hardest part is finding a spot for the crossover lol but you plug in the wires coming from the radio, input, and then connect the wires for the tweeter and woofer. no problem!

i have these for my fronts:

and these for my rears:

they're made by JL and are awesome!

I bought the pioneer D series over the components. Ive never really been a big fan of components. The thing you really have to remember is that if you do buy coaxials, only one tweeter is necessary. Those coaxials that have like two or three tweeters on them, all theyre doing is blocking bass. IMO I just find components to be a hassle. Just get a good coaxial and be set. As a suggestion, I highly recommend the pioneer D series, and it has an internal crossover to separate the frequencies.

Coaxials are not regular wire speakers, correct?

Honestly, I'm not sure how much I'd want to get components, I would like a speaker that essentially can just run off my stock cables and whatnot and just be plug n play but give better sound.

My 6x9's are running on stock cable and they are amazing.

coaxials are the speakers that have a woofer and the tweeter comes up through the middle, just like any regular speakers really. I recommend the d series as they can run on the power from your deck, sound fantastic, and have an internal crossover.

Coaxials, do they run off of the regular speaker wire?

I hope they are not called coaxials because they run on coax cable.

no they run off regular speaker wire. They run off your deck if you want. I just have mine through an amp just because.

To run it off your amp you'd have to run a new set of wires. It's tempting, I'm looking at some of the component speakers, some Alpine Type R seem nice.
