In-Car Computer?

Anyone else do this? I have mine mounted in the trunk. under a peice of acrylic and lighted by some CC's. Took me about a week to do, have it hooked up to my Screen in my dash, with a trackball I currently am running wired, as I plan to have it molded into the center console. Anyone else?

(mods this if this subject is outa place move or remove, do not know where to talk about electronics, and this sub-fourm, seemed ok)

you kno, there's someone else that has a p4 cube in their trunk, and a 15" flat screen up front... i forget who, tho. one thing i'm wondering is how'd u get a power source to your computer inside of the car? i'm planning on putting my decks (turntables for those of you born before 1980) in my trunk so i can spin at shows, but i have no idea how i'd get power to my trunk (especially if i'm stopped... battery=dead FAST (you thought lights were deadly).

nice setup tho... keep it up =)

btw: you got a fone hooked up? u could use mapquest while you drive, haha

nice setup smanders. isomniac, nah the Harddrive is suspended by a special rack, that reduces vibrations. So its in good care.

That seems to be the rumor but I haven't heard of actual people having problems. I am prepared if it does. Nothing critical is on the PC and it is backup over my network once a week. If it does fail, I'll get a 2.5 Laptop drive. That should work pretty well. If that has problems, then maybe I'll look into some dampening mechanism. Hopefully by then, solid state storage will be cheap enough to install a whole system on.

dood, i am so jealous of ur setup! i've thought about putting a computer in my car for a while now, but the cost just seems so high! i've been building computers for a couple years, but i'm not sure i'd take on the soldering jobs you did to complete your project... i hear that opus has a new computer on the way exclusively for in-car use (hopefully small), so maybe i'll check into that.

u most definately inspired me! keep us updated on engine management from the pc
