sub box question!

im building a sub box and i heard about how turning your box so that the subs face your seats can improve sound and bass. and i understand why and all that. but i was wondering: if you placed your subs in your box so that the cones and everything were facing out, improve or worsen the sound?

i drew a picture to clarify what im trying to say

also does anyone know approx. how much air space is needed for one 10' sub?

thanks!

whoever told you about turning the subs doesnt know anything about car audio. in a sedan, it is best to have the subs facing back with the ports (if any) also facing back. subwoofers are designed to go INSIDE the box...people install them inside out for looks. horrible IMO. and box size depends on the sub. look at the manufacturer specs that come with the sub.

i'm a electric tech...and i have done several audio systems. you should never put the cone outside of the box. by doing this you are going to fry your sub. and a sub is not a a "free air" speaker. now by changing the direction the way the whole box faces is another story. it's really personal preference. what ever sounds better in your car. hope this helps
