speaker/sub replacement

I bought my 08 lancer gts with the rf system and I'm getting tired of the blown rear speakers. I think the sub is blown as well. I know just about nothing about audio systems and I figure a lot of you could give me some nice suggestions on what speakers to get to replace the rear speakers and maybe a sub to replace the factory sub. I don't want to replace the amp or headunit.

Thanks.

What is your budget for speakers and sub?
Are you going to replace the fronts when you replace the rears?

Don't want to spend too much as I don't know how long I'll be keeping the car, but I know you get what you pay for. And it's a possibility.

'how do you know they are blown?'

I ask - because it is really hard to do it with a factory system. They purposely match the specs of the amp to speaker and then turn it all up to ensure nothing fails. Picture every pimply teen running back to the dealership for warranty work after cranking the Lady Gaga...

What you will hear is distortion as the amp gets to its limit on output. Are you over-driving what the system was designed for? If so - new speakers won't be much louder - you need new amps.

I'm alright with the speakers not being any louder, as long as they last. I know they're blown as they now longer play music. Just a distinct popping sound that everyone loves to hear.

That sounds more like a failing amp...

Blown speakers sound fine at low volume/low bass. When you turn it up it sounds like blarg blarg blarg on every bass note - the speaker is 'blown'.

When you hear a metallic pop pr smack on a big bass note - the speaker is over-driven (cone is excurding/coils are hitting the limits).

How did all the speakers get blown? One event when you were listening to it - or the sound just 'appeared' (which would again, support a failed amp).

Can you swap the amp with a buddy and see if that fixes it?

That's more along the lines of what I meant.
