$300 can buy a decent head unit, but before people start arbitrarily throwing model numbers out, I think you should decide what you want from the head unit.

Does it matter what it looks like? Does it need to look good (have nice visual features)?

Or are you more concerned with the way it sounds?

Think about that before you start looking, it will save you a lot of time, and maybe a few bucks too.

I just got the Kenwood Excelon X579 for $229 from Crutchfield (comes with harness, free shipping, no tax, etc). It has lots of great features like 3 outputs, plays mp3, wmv, Sirius ready, lots of good stats. I am a fan of Kenwood though. They also have the free Sirius tuner off as well.

I suggest you take a look at Crutchfirld. As Powder stated they give you a free harness, no tax, and free shipping (sometimes). Not mention they have great customer service. As for a good headunit, I have always had good luck with Kenwood. IMO, stay away from Sony.

I do installs as a side job, Never had any problems with Alpine Equipment. The stuff just works! Don't go with new sony, Eclipse is my second choice, but don't have any hands on experience with it!

XM and Sirius are satellite radio services. In theory, you pay for hundreds of channels of commercial-free radio. But in reality, you get 100 channels of talk radio, 20 channels of rap, 20 of rock, 20 of classical, etc. Of those 20, only 3 or 4 may be commercial free. In my opinion it's not worth the $10 a month (I hate the radio as it is). Just put the money into a CD changer and play what you've already got.
