How do I fit another (audio)reciever into the mini din underneath the ac controls
I don't know if this is a n00bie question, perhaps someone already asked this question. But because of the renovations @ LancerForums, I can't really find any of the posts regarding audio & security. Well basically I wanted to know how to fit another (audio)reciever in that tiny half din under the air conditions reciever. I recall seeing someone's lancer in the owners gallery once that had 2 reciever in the dash. I know it sounds rediculus but I'm going to remove the stock reciever and put a Monitor & try and add a Sony reciever to the underneath din. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I looked everywhere for a kit but they don't have any for the Lancer yet.
BTW, I love the new forum look, but it's hard to find certain posts. It was easier before, when they had audio & tech supports. Anyways great job with the site.

Nobody knows? isn't anyone else curious? I really need the help, I specially ordered a reciever all the way from Dubai, India and I'll be getting it soon, I need info on how or where I can find info on installing it into the bottom of the A/C controllers.
PLEASE HELP!

have you tried venturing your dashboard yourself? try unscrewing the 2 screws that hold in that little tray thing..then it opens up very nicely and you MIGHT..i stress might.. be able to fit something in there..why dont you just put the lcd screen in the tray?? it would probably easier because the reciever has a little place where it goes and then the screen would most likely fit snuggly in there.. but hey! just unscrew those 2 things and pop it out and have some fun!!
First off, thanks for your suggestion. No one else seems to know anything or care. Second, I've already tried that. Unscrewing the 2 screws from the bottom tray will leave just a big gap. I remember some guy in the users gallery has it actually don't successfully, nice & clean. I'd like to hear from whoever that was. Anyway once again thanks
if you take out the half din there are already the metal parts you need to install another head unit complete with the holes already drilled, this just proves it further that mitsu really thought every aspect of this car towards the tuner market, and what this car could be. SOme people will say that it the metal holders arent for that but my dvd screen fit perfectly into them so theres the proof.
What does the half din become? a single din or double din? And what size is your DVD screen? I have a specially ordered Sony XR-CA620X Car Stereo from Dubai, India. Reason being it can pick up cellphone signals as well as shortwave radio. I want to put that in the half din and replace the stock reciever with a dvd monitor. What's your opinions should I put the monitor on the bottom and the XR-CA620X on the top?

hey,
yeh i did it to my car. I put in an emerson in-dash tv and wanted a good cd headunit also so i just cut out that little tray thing and installed the metal stereo mounting bracket. you have to be very careful not to make the hole to big tho...just take your time and cuz it small then file it to make it a snug fit. install the metal mounting thingy and bend up that tabs to make it stable. then you have to splice the wires all together...the top unit and bottom unit into your wire harness. you can turn them both on at the same time but you need at least a 25 amp fuse and you might want to run a seperat power wire for the power source for the units because your increasing it from 10 to 25 amps. also one will get more quiet then the other because 2 seperate signals will go to the 1 wire harness...PM me for ne more questions about this.

If you can get your hands on a copy of import tuner with the lancer in it you will see that they have made a custom enclosure for a 7 (i think) inch screen hooked up to a G.P.S unit.
thinking "what a great idea" i went to my local Earmark car audio chain...not because i buy **** there cause they are way over priced...but because i see them sawing and cuting all over cars that are woth 10 times mine...
Anyway, i talked to the guy about how it could be done and how well it would work, pros and cons... more or less you would loose your ash tray. the wooden enclosure would come from that extra hole in your dash under your ac controlls all the way down to your shifter at about a 70 degree angle (or so) then the wooden part would wrap all the way around the part that is carpeted to make it look flush and stock...
he drew my a few pics that matched exactly what iw saw in import tuner. all and all he said it would run me 350.00
not a bad price for what all your gonna get.
God i have been waiting for someone to ask that !!!
WWWHOOOO!!
rock on and if you have n e Q please let me know
i am about to get it done with a 5 in screen hopefully all will turn out well...soon i will post pics..
Good luck,
`N
Edit: ash tray and cig lighter could be relocated...
