Got My System............

Finally finished installing my system last night after working on it for 4 days after work until it got too late. I took the time to solder every connection and put shrink wrap as well. It was my first time doing speakers or an amp so it was interesting. I also ran 16-gauge speaker wire throughout the car which was a PITA but it was worth it.

What I got:

Kenwood Excelon X579 receiver
Kenwood Excelon X178 speakers x 4
Kenwood 8401 amp - 60rms x 4 channel
Sirius tuner through HU

I wasn't planning to go all Kenwood but the deals I found online were the right $$$ and the specs were good. I paid about $700 for everything including amp install kit and RCA cables.

I have to say it sounds so unbelieveably better than the stock system I can't describe. I can crank it way up and it sounds so clean. I have to say I am 100% satisfied. It actually puts out some decent bass as well but I have that turned down a bit. I am not into bass all that much, just enough to sound good with the music. I know there is better stuff out there but for me, this is awesome.

Oh yeah, Sirius radio kicks so much ***. Everyone should have it. I doubt I'll listen to the local FM crap ever again.

The receiver is great but I wish it had the 2-line display which would be a little better for the Sirius setup. The higher end models had that but were also motorized which I don't like. I bought it from Crutchfield since they have free shipping and give you all the installation and wiring stuff for free.

I set the high-pass filters on the amp to get rid of some of the bass and it sounds a lot better now. I can crank it WAY up and it doesn't distort at all.

Thanks. The part I like is that the amp is under the passengar seat so besides the head unit, you would never know anything has changed. Much harder to steal too.

I'm in the process of finishing a sub box for the trunk that will hold a Kicker CVR12 powered by a Kicker DX350 amp which will be under the drivers seat. I'm not out to enter any competitions, I just want a little quality bass back in the setup. It should sounds pretty good when I am done.

I'll take quality over "quantity" any day. I've seen people spend big money on "systems" that consist of a couple high dollar subs and amps. Sure, it puts out a ton of bass but sounds like shiznit. They crank up the volume and their mids and highs are all distorted and crackling but there subs are kicking away.

To each their own I guess..............
