Question about an alarm

Ok reading another post I saw a link to this website. My question is what do you guys think a bout this alarm, is it worth it? I'll get it installed professionally, but I don't know about the product. Should I get it or just go to my local audio shop and pay for one of theirs (a Viper) with instal for like $250. I would get a Clifford from them but they stoped selling them because the said Clifford was going under, and Viper makes them anyways. But the one at the audio shop doesn't have a cool pager, or remote start, or a cool pager, or a radar motion sensor, and did I mention the cool pager. Anyways let me know if you guys think I should get it or if I would be wasting my money.

I say go with a Clifford. I've been using them for over 10 years and I think it's the best alarm on the market. I recommend choosing the real Clifford models i.e. the Concept and Intelligard lines. The Matrix line is just rebadged Viper stuff since DEI bought out Clifford.

Guys Clifford is no different the any other DEI product. The new line that is. The older Clifford stuff was OK at best. There is a reason they went out of business and DEI bought them. The G4 & intelligard stuff was some of the worst stuff I can remember installing as a tech. Horrible product to install and worse to service. Go with any of the new DEI stuff and you wont go wrong. Viper, Phython, Rattler,Clifford, Valet..... etc etc etc

Alarm = waste of money
only good thing about an alarm is the blinking light in the dash/console to scare people away

Once they know you have an alarm and decide to go through with it anyway your screwed

how often do you hear alarms in the parking lot.... how often do you investagate them?

as far as the pagers go their range sucks and more likely than not it wouldn't help you out.

and to get a good system (dei) with all the door pins hood/trunk pins pager motion sensors ignition kill fuel line cutoff glass frequency sensors your looking at close to 2000 bucks for the system and professional install and all this alarm will do is make noise as the person makes off with your stuff and or bashes up your ride...

do the smart thing take that money and insure your stuff get a low deductable and get EVERYTHING insured. the harder you make it for the thief to get your stuff the more broken up your car is going to be. if its easy for him to get likely not much will be broke and insurance will cover what is stolen or busted.

Of course we would all like the thieves to be caught personally I would like to see them Shot in the head heck I'd volenteer to do it... however if you want the best protection for your car insurance is the way to go.

If you can't tell already I have done the whole fancy alarm thing... multiple times never once did it prevent or catch the thief.

Depending on how old it is, Directed (not DEI anymore) will replace it with the carbon fiber remote under warrenty, that is if you got it from and authorized dealer.

Clifford is owned by Directed and is no where near going under, in fact 05 there will be a new fantastic G5 two way.

The only function of an alarm is not only to just scare people away. The light often times does deter theft but in some cases the thief will still go at it. Often times, if a door handle is pulled, and the alarm gives a warning "chirp" the light will flash different until the owner goes to the car and disarms the alarm, in which case you know that someone was playing with your ride.

If you have an alarm, and they do decide to go at it anyway, they will have far less time than if you had no alarm at all. Just think, if you were a thief, there was no obnoxious sound going off , wouldnt you just take your time and steal everything? If an alarm was making an obnoxious noise, SOMEONE is bound to look and the thief will definately panic and not take everything.

I have an Audiovox 2 way paging alarm i got for relatively cheap(cost, i used to install car audio and alarms at circuit city), i also have the backup battery, tilt sensors, hood and trunk pins, interior motion sensor, siren inside and under the hood, ignition kills(3), and some other goodies. My pager has a range of 1000 feet and is good for about 800 of those 1000 feet according to what I have tried. I don't know many people that sleep more than 800 feet from their car. I personally have been sleeping and my alarm went off in the middle of the night, my pager went off, i ran to the window and saw the people who tried to break in driving away.

While I still reccomend getting an alarm, your advice of insuring everything is KEY. Often times insurance will not cover aftermarket items over $1000 in your car, make sure you declare everything you put into your car, you deserve the money. Also, sometimes insurance companies will give you a 10-15% discount on auto insurance and if you have Lojack also you get a bigger one. This is one main reason i have an alarm for the discount on insurance.

I dont know about everyone else, but the one thing I HATE getting stolen is my CD's, I love my CD collection, whether its burned or bought just the fact of how long it takes to get a CD collection, your insurance company does not pay for CD's and your effort to get all the cd's. I usually hide them but if my alarm wasnt going off I bet people could find them if they had the time.

Just because you've done a fancy alarm and its never caught a thief, maybe someone else will catch the thief.

Just my .02 cents while im sitting here in calculus class reading this.
