Evo Car Computer Completed

Just wanted to show off my completed car computer...

Hopefully, a "DSMLINK" like ECU will be available that I could inteface to directly with my carpc. I guess the Xede would be the closest thing right now....

Nice work . I was pondering the same setup, but the raw materials would add up real quick $$$.

Best feature - wireless downloads of MP3's to the car .

Any way you could hook that up to a regular In-dash monitor? I realize your screen probably has much better resolution...?

Yeah the VIA mini-itx motherboard has both RCA video and S-video out. The screen I used has been available for over a year with a TV monitor. But if you have ever tried to use a PC on a TV you would understand. Plus on a 7" screen, it would make it even worse. Also many of the video games and certain drivers cannot support certain things with the TV output enabled. The resolution is a fuzzy 320x240 but the computer still runs at 640x480 in most cases. You can imagine how difficult it would be to use. I waited 6 months for the VGA version to become available. The image is very crisp. The raw resolution is 800x480, but you can run resolutions up to and over 1280x1024. Surprisingly the image remains crisp, it just that everything is so small. I usually run at 640x480 and sometimes 800x600. The VGA screen also has to RCA inputs if you happen to have other devices in the car already like DVD or game consoles.

VGAs have been around but I wanted it to fold away into a DIN and have touchscreen support. Armen at DigitalWW, was the first to produce a product like that. I knew it was in the works, so I waited. I also waited for the 90W version of the Opus Power Supply. It worked out well that they were both available within a few weeks of eachother. I pretty much had everything else in place waiting for them.

wow! great setup!

i saw a mustang cobra edition with a 17 flatscreen in the front, and he had ripped out glove box area and installed the motherboard and everything else in there and then had a slice of pelxiglass as a cover...and the cars AC cooled the cpu...its was nice....was playing half-life on it in largest res...and it looked great...

i like yours though, more convient!
