I'm trying to look at the positives. The current PB is limited by the mods you produce at RRM correct?

This is a big one for me as well... i want to get the RPW cam and gear for the ralliart when available. Then i'm sure i'll need some more fuel... can't do that without the software.

Pro - make customers happy, allow the serious tuners to tune specifically for their exact mods.

Con - dealing with morons.

To me, as a vendor, those are my concerns. You have the great guys you gave it to as guinea pigs who can make REAL power with tweaks here and there. But there are going to be a lot of idiots that try to self-tune on the laptop and blow up. And RRM does NOT have the staff to cover that.

To me, the lack of staffing to answer custom PB questions does outweigh the happy customer aspect. But that's me.

--------------------

Speaking as a mod - yes, I'd gladly trash the "RRM blew my motor ... because they let me tweak it" threads that come up.

If you are going custom PB then that should be out of RRM's scope of responsibilities.

They already offer a tune and that is that. If you want more then that should fall to your own resources.

We have had tuning discussions about SAFC, Emanage etc. Why not open a tuning forum for Lancers like they have in the EVO section. Included at the top should be all the things you need to safely custom tune eg. accurate wideband.

WADAD

Hopefully everyone that was screaming for this to be released will chime in.
I'm going to bed now.

Good luck everyone.

Heres my whole take on this... RRM is great at giving out those base maps... yes it will cause a lot of head aches b/c of the morons... I would have bought your pb over the emanage had you been selling software with it. You werent, my plans at the time of my purchase (and still are) were to go full out n/a, RPW im, and RPW cams... for that your pb was going to fall way short of my tuning needs. Even with the software if may not meet my tuning needs unless it can adjust timing. That is one lost sale... if you look in the fs section you will notice even more lossed sales as ppl are resaling their rrm pbs cheap to move on to something else that can handle what they need.

Here is one more point for you... now you have enough pb's out in the world to know that they WILL not blow any ones engine... so if anyone claims it happend on your stock map you will know better. So you can put a disclaimer on your software... much like greddy and aem do.

Have them sign a waiver that they have to fax to you when they buy the software. That easy, it says they won't mess with you if they mess up their car.

All right... since I'm an instigator of this mess I think I have to cut in this conversation as well. I already worded my opinion times and times and I don't feel like doing it another time. Because I am the instigator of this crap, I have read plenty of posts regarding RRM's concerns. It's been what? 1 month now right, and during that 1 month I started understanding RRM's point of view. I got the software from another source and sort of left the topic alone not to stire **** up even more.

RRM want's to cover their @ss. Fully understandable
People want to get everything they can out of the box. Fully understandable

So here is how I think it should work out.
RRM offers 2 Packages for the same price and an option to get the software later.
  • Piggyback
  • Piggyback + R4 + Backup of base map
  • R4 + backup of base map
If you get Piggyback only, you get all the support RRM is willing to give you.
If you get the Piggyback with the R4, you're on your own right of the bat
If you get the R4 after getting the box, you're on your own from there.

I totaly agree with the idea of having a dedicated SplitSecond Tuning section.

i agree with this. however, for the sake of your staff at RRM and the amount of idiot's that you will encounter on the forums i would NOT release the product. leave the tech support that is needed with advanced tuning to somebody else. you guys havea great reputation and offer great products for both the beginner and the more advanced in Lancer tuning. i think that releasing such a product would cause more problems than good.

ex. everybody will want the new 'technology' for their lancer. thus the guys with the original PB ECU will start selling them cheap as stated earlier. some idiot will inevitably buy one, send it back to you at RRM wanting the new software, and since RRM is awesome...you will do it. two weeks later you will find that somebody tampered with it and blew their car up and it was RRM's fault...

it's a head ache. stick with what you've got....or i think the waiver + disclaimer working together would be your best bet.

Tuning section is a good idea. That starts to make it work... Glad people are starting to see it from our perspective. Even Blaze! Now we might get something constructive done.

And how about some cheap WBo2's and maybe EGT's? Make everything user friendly!

Everyone - I've officially applied for a Lancer Engine Management/Tuning forum.

If some members started a similar request in the Site Feedback forum, and a bunch of you jumped in, that might help too. *nudge nudge*

------------------

As for RRM, something like a "piggyback + software + wideband" package deal would just make sense for the dedicated tuners (like I used to be... )
