SES w/ RRM PB?
SES w/ RRM PB?
I installed the rrm piggyback ecu and let it idle as in the directions, and it was clear everything was hooked up right by how it was acting, and then drove it cautiously for 20-25 min to let it learn and then started to drive it hard and all of a sudden the SES light came on in my car, anybody know anything about this or why it would come on? Thanks.
never had a single problem with a light after the PB ECU install. it's been in for over a year now...nor have i heard much on it happening to anybody else. have you pulled the code yet? it may be a coincidence that it went off and that it is not related to the ECU. or there may have been a problem with a connection and/or vacuum line
There is a very long thread reviewing the piggyback v.2 which I'm assuming you have. The code is most likely a misfire code. RRM has mentioned that for the 02-03 Lancer you may or may not get this code. If it is mirfiring, it would only be at idle which does not hurt the engine at all. As mentioned above, if the car is driving fine and feels ok, then you have nothing to worry about. You can always take your car into Autozone and get the code pulled for free to fin out for sure and again, RRM is more than willing to help you out if you give them a call. Good luck.
Just for the record, I've had both the v.1 and the v.2 piggybacks and neither one have given me a CEL.

if you spliced into the factory o2 sensor, then you will get a SES. i got one when installing my wideband. i removed the splice, reset the ecu and haven't gotten one since. that would be my guess.
TEJ...i didn't catch this before-->you said you drove cautiously for the alotted time frame. did you stop the car and restart it before driving hard? i forgot to do that once and the second i opened up the throttle it threw a CEL. i realized what i did, went home, reset it, did the whole thing over again properly and there wasn't a CEL the next time...you may have done it correctly, this is just something i realized though. i could have been misinterpreting what you wrote.
