Same here. Avoid it.

PS - our car is DIS. So if you do get an MSD box, MAKE SURE you get the DIS kit. But you might still blow the coils......

I'm going to say that you probably don't. I honestly can't think of a reason any Lancer that I'm aware of would need it. That includes Omar's and my own.

I just don't see why anyone thinks they need this. Theoretically you can probably use any wasted spark system or completely redo the entire system. Ideally 4 coil packs would be the best solution, but hey...it would require fabrication and either something like E-manage with the ignition harness or standalone engine management. Again though, I don't know of any Lancer who needs any ignition upgrade beyond maybe spark plugs. Even plug wires really aren't necessary.

Then an MSD ignition would not be the way to go. Individual coil packs would be ideal. Regardess, in that case you probably would want a standalone, and separate ignition would be superfluous.

What's to sum up? Your car is only a couple years old. I don't know your mods, but I haven't seen a single Lancer modded enough to NEED a new ignition system.

Save your money, get something you really need.

Standalone replaces your ECU's functions. Piggy back still uses the stock ecu but modifies certain signals to change how it functions

I don't see why you would want to downgrade to an MSD box anyways. The ignition that our cars has is actually the second best design, only being beat by coil on spark systems like Corvettes have. Changing to an MSD or even MSD-style would mean that you are going to have long wires for the spark to lose power in, and alot of extra crap junking up your engine bay and adding weight. And let's not forget the amount of setup that you would have to go through. If anything, just find a way to upgrade the factory stuff.
