Timing Map Explanation?
So I'm trying to tune my car, myself, and get everything worked out correctly. I'm curious, what does changing the timing values do? This is for a turbo lancer btw.
Timing refers to the spark plug firing. The lower the number the closer to TDC the plug will fire. As the engine spins faster, the timing needs to be advanced so the plug fires sooner so it can burn the a/f mixture thoroughly before the exhaust valve opens

Alright I already knew/understood that, I guess I should have rephrased my question. If I pull timing, that will basically richen the mixture?
Not quite sure how that works yet havent actually done any tuning yet as I am still waiting on some parts for my build lol. I think it does change the a/f but not sure how much and which way

So I've been doing a little research... Is it true that reducing time will help reduce knock? I'm having high counts right now and need to get this worked out soon.

Tuning timing is the most dificult part of tuning and is where all significant power will be made. You will only do it properly on a dyno. You should get some tuning books or take a course...

Exactly right, if you look at your logs you will see a reduction in timing with or right after a knock occurs. This is the ecu reducing the timing to get rid of the knock.
