DSG tune, or tactrix cable and self tune?

Called up DSG tuning here and its 500 for a tune, they use the tactrix cable to tune it and flash it. Should i save up the 500 to get in pro tuned, or buy the 120 dollar cable and the 25 dollar Evoscan logging, and tune myself? Any input guys? I want to base tune at 5 PSI, then tune again to 8 PSI.

$500 seems on the high side for a pro tune from what I've seen on here.

You could go one of three ways.

1: Have a shop/tuner tune your car.

2: Do a "e-mail tune". Which means you tell a tuner what all you have and what you're wanting and they make you a tune that you flash to your ecu and you then datalog and they adjust the tune little by little until it's right. Alot of people due this and love it.

3: Tune it yourself with OpenEcu, EvoScan and a OpenPort cable. This is what I'm tring to do, however it's not as easy to get up and running as some might think.

If you want compleat control, do it yourself.
If you want it done "right" and on time, hire someone.
Not to say you can't get it good, but someone who tunes all day will most likely do a better job.

Thanks for the breakdown man, that really helped me out in deciding what i want to do. I think i might get the ECUflash software and Evoscan logging, and a tactrix cable. Have someone write me a base map that i can start out with, then i can make minor adjustments to the tune!

I'd highly recommend a wideband O2 sensor if you are tuning a turbo Lancer by yourself. That'll bump up the cost a little.

Sounds like you're covered. You got the logging cable for it too, or just going my your eye? I've done both, but the cable makes things like 300% easier.

I meant the cable to log the wideband data from the AEM setup.
