Best exhaust setup pipes/muffler?

I'm going to get my exhaust Redone and I was wondering from your knowledge and experience which diameter works the best with a 2.0 N/A Lancer already have headers I tried straight pipe with a cheap 49$ "performance" muffler and actually lost allot of power LOW end torque and gained nothing on top end.. So if you can recommend any mufflers and could tell me the flow rates and stuff it's a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2.0L N/A 4 speed Automatic 120HP 130torque. Thanks just need this thing to regain lost power and maybe even gain a little extra

I do believe in the back pressure system because at the end of the exhaust is a 3 inch diameter outlet and when I have my exhaust tip off which brings it back down to a 2 inch in diameter I can really tell a difference day and night.. So I beleive it needs more back pressure

which is the better forum then for exhaust. I didn't see anything as a category for exhaust in the Lancer forum. the only other possible one is the engine tech one (!which is described as: Discuss specs/changes to the engine from cams to fully balanced and blueprinted engines), but seems that engine management and tuning is better possibly than just an engine tech only category. thanx.

Sorry to say but you will not see much go gain with bolt ons on our engine . To gain a significant amount you have to turbo or engine swap. You could get a Lilttle hp from reflashing the ecu. The RRM piggyback says you can get up to 10-15% gain but people say if you flash it yourself you will see a larger gain.

What diameter did you have with your straight pipe exhaust?

Well with the header you're gonna lose a bit in the low end with a 4-1, a 4-2-1 will give you a bit more in the mid rpm ranges. But with 3 in. diameter pipes there's a lot of flow ability there,so unless you throw on a coupler and reduce it to like 2.5 diameter I don't know if changing the muffler type is gonna have the desired effect. I can't think of any aftermarket mufflers that would be beneficial in restricting flow.

Wait....the exhaust tip OD is 3 in. and the rest of the piping OD is 2? If the piping is 2 in. and the tip is 3 you can't be seeing any difference in back pressure. The only time you'd get an increase in back pressure is when you go from a larger OD to a smaller OD. If you eliminated the cat with the straight pipe, there's your loss of resistance/back pressure. The cat actually is a bit restrictive.

+1^^^ removing the tip or having it on won't do anything either.
