Thinking NA now, got some questions
Ok, heres the deal. I would love to turbo my car like Boni's and LiquidLancer's, but the finances are not there and lord knows what class that would put me in at an Autocross event, lol. That and I really really want Tein coil-overs. So Im thinking sticking to NA and tuning my suspension will be the route Ill go. At this point, sticking with NA, Im left with changing the throttle body, getting a cat-back exhaust, buying a header, and screwing around with my S-AFC. (Already have the short ram intake, damn those automatics, lol) So, with those mods, Im wondering about the horsepower increase. I know its not going to be too drastic, but with NA mods its been said they cause a snowball effect. Any thoughts on what increase could be seen at the wheels? Rob, Im looking in your direction, lol.
About the new RRM headers, they look great. My question is how hard would they be to install/unistall. I would be taking them off when I go in for service at the dealership, call me crazy but I dont want to get into a heated debate with a service department. Id assume the gasket would need to be replaced each time the header / exhaust manifold is swapped. Again would this be all that difficult.
Also, Im leaning towards waiting for the Greddy cat-back exhaust. I know RRM will soon be coming out with the rest of their exhaust making it a true cat back, but will this compare to a truly flow tested Greddy system? Rob, I mean no disrespect to you or RRM when saying that, just posing the question.
So thats the end of my NA rant I suppose. Im opting out of turbo power for lack of funds (college) plus my dad will soon be getting a 350 Z. If I want to go fast I can drive that around, lol. Ill put my big money on the Tein coil-overs and kill on the autocross course.

well first off, your never going to see any real power gains with jus basic bolt on if you going to stay N/A. you will only get like 15-20 hp with just bolt ons. the only way your going to signficiently increase power is if you change the camshaft, get new higher compression pistons like 11.0:1, port and polish the head...major things like that.
As long as you can take nuts off of bolts you can put on a header. its a simple process. With the exhaust manifold gasket you don't really need to replace it since the car is so new. As long as it looks ok you should be fine with keeping the stock gasket since it is metal and fairly new. but if you keep swapping you might want to get a new one. some people like to put new gaskets on every time they replace something. as long at it looks fine you should be ok.
to get significant power staying N/A will most probably cost more then a basic bolt on turbo kit.

Thats what I thought, but 20 hp to me is good. My Lancer felt fast stock when I got it, since my prior vehicle was a Wrangler. Its all in the mind, as I test drove a 350 Z and a G35 recently and thought it was fast, but others seem to disagree. 20 hp will help me on the autocross events, and I think much more would really kill me seeing as how the Lancer has no LSD. Thanks for the input.

The newest and most gigantic but surprisingly good thread about NA power...there are a couple more out there so give it a shot.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The Lancer's strength will never be outright power (short of TCing it). However, the thing handles pretty damn good stock, and with some serious suspension mods, it should terrorize the cones.
I agree with most stuff said. concentrate on suspension for autocross and just finish off engine with header and T.B. That should be good enough power for autocrossing in a limited or production class. Don't forget the most important autocross mod...... TIRES!!!!!
