Definitely the cold start function. If your block/engine is cold, the atomized fuel will condense into droplets on the cylinder walls more easily. If you didn't know, fuel burns in its gaseous stage (which is why if you ever see a puddle of fuel burning it seems like the flame is slightly above the liquid). The condensation means less atomized fuel is available, therefore creating a lean condition and potentially predetonation/knock/ping or whatever name you know it by. To combat this the ECU does what was already described as a cold start. Essentially it just dumps even more fuel into the mix, not only to compensate for condensation, but also to speed up the process of bringing the engine/coolant to temp. It's nothing abnormal, and your car has probably either 1. been doing it without your noticing (more likely) or 2. not needed to do it before because your coolant temps had not been as low or your knock sensor wasn't picking anything up before recently (less likely).

It's definitely normal though. On an aside, try programming this **** on a standalone sometime. What a pain in the *****.
