I was refering to your intial post, Viciouz... and it seems like a legitimate question. First out of curiousity- why would you look for an octane booster instead of race gas? And I'm assuming that you're affiliated with RRM because you've identified yourself as such to a friend of mine (regarding the CF wing pics that he wanted removed from the RRM site).... so I figured you have greater access to these guys than most of us.

What threads are going downhill? I'm On Topic.....

and since everyone's online: did you try the gas/toluene mix? How'd it work out?

I only asked out of curiousity, and I thought it was pretty clear that I work for RRM??? I just wanted to know if this would be a cheap alternative to race gas. And your friend with the cf wing, we didn't mean any harm by that.

Also I tried the toulene/gas mix, and I didn't feel that much of a gain, cept I noticed my egt gauge climbed slower than normal. But not as noticeable as race gas.

cool, sounds like a successful test. The mix was approx 94, right? What's the oct of the race gas you've tried?

Just to clarify: I didn't know for certain that you're an employee of RRM and now that the pic is off the site there's no bad blood about that.

Can you try to get the toluene mix closer to the 100 oct? I'm curious if there isn't a noticable difference at similar levels of octane.... but that's cool if you're finished with the experiment, this stuff's expensive.

^ ya i would agree with eboy also, you should compare the 2 unless they were gonna be close to the same octane 93 and a 100 is a big gap

well the thing is, if you go with more toulene, its dangerous for fuel lines and other things, cuz its PURE, doesn't have any good addititives like gas does... i read a huge thread on it in the Evo forums

You should never exceed 30% ratio of Toluene to Pump Gas (otherwise all your rubber components will get eaten away; gas lines, etc. even o rings)....

Toulene is 114 octane Best Pump is 94 octane

3 gallons of 94 octane and 1 gallon of Toluene make 99 octane fuel (25% of which is Touene).

However, it's a waste of money to make your own gas like this unless 1) you have a FI car 2) you have an NA car with high compression (10:1 or higher) and 3) you are running crazy advanced timing...

On the Evo, Toluene is insane

It doesn't harm your engine at all. The only bad thing it does is it can make a brown ash form on your o2 sensors causing the reading to get messed up over time. Keep only a maximun of 60% gas 40% toluene mix since you would be diluting other additives like detergents and anti-static mixtures. So 1 gallon of gas per .4 gallon of toluene maximum and your good to go.

i'll stick to the 30% ratio, but its hard to achieve 100 octane, when you only can get like 91 from around here in so cal
