Breakin?
No, it's not ok. Read the forum rules and remember that, by signing up, you've agreed to them. I'm going to change these to lower case. Please do not continue posting all in caps or you will be warned.
you guys must have the manual transmission then when going 80 some miles per hour in third. the auto's gear ratios must be much different because i have gone about 110 in 3rd gear before it shifted into 4th. i never topped out fourth, got scared and i dont think the car has enough power in that gear to fight the wind resistance.
well from what i know the first 20-50 miles your supposed to give the engine certain throttle positions and at different rpm's to seat the piston rings correctly so they don't wear the cylindars the wrong way. this is the most important mileage for a new engine. the rest of the 500 miles or whatever is mostly for the brakes so you don't heat up the rotors too fast and warp them.
for the 20-50 miles your not "beating" the engine, your just doing what its made to do. you pull the car to redline...first easily then a little faster, then full throttle just to seat the rings correctly. then you drive it easy for the brakes sake.
oh yeah another important thing...don't use the brakes to slow down during the first 20-50 miles...let the engine slow itself down...that is very important.

Here is what I have done. I have gotten it to 6000 rpms a few times and have been conciously engine breaking a lot all the way down to a stop. I did 80 miles of driving last night through the hills stopping and going, didn't launch or anything but didn't baby the car either. I got the 75000 mile warranty so hopefully I won't have to use it anytime soon. (Almost got a 750,000 mile warranty but thats a different story.)
Let me just say that breaking in your engine is important if you expect a long life...
However, if your like me you'll be rebuilding her atleast once to put better parts in...
