05 Raliart block swap
05 Raliart block swap
So I know it is possible to do a block swap with the 2.2l Raliart engine (2004 and earlier) but can you do a block swap with the new 2005 RA 2.4l engine? I'm going to be able to mod my car alot more now and a block swap is definately something I was thinking about. Another question (sorry, I'm not too savvy on engine work like this) I have is that if I did do a block swap from 2.0 to 2.2/2.4 wouldn't I need longer rods or wider pistons (or a combination) to make up the difference in the cylinder area? I'm wanting to stay NA and if I did a block swap I'd want to save up and just get everything out of the way (block swap, new pistons/rods, cam shaft, flywheel, and am I missing anything?). Basically trying to not only get power but increase the cars redline. I tried to find some threads on this and the only ones I could find with good information were the evo threads but obviously they always end up getting into FI. Any info, advice, links, etc. appriciated as always.
2.2L ralliart?
if you're in the evo threads, the 2.2 is a stroked 4g63 2.0L. the 2.2 block itself doesn't exist.
if you want a higher redline, you're gonna have to shorten the rods and widen the bore. that won't particularly happen on a g94 block since we can't widen it anymore. the 2.4 RA block won't fit up either.

Wow rhyzin, good self control (not smacking him with a "SEARCH!"
)
So I'll do it, sorta. Basically, this topic, like many others, has come up dozens of times. Everytime a questions is asked again, it takes up room on the search results pages. That makes it harder to find the answers to questions. That's why we recommend to new folks that they search before they start a new post. Please give it a try, I know this topic in particular has been discussed in the past few months. The stroker kit discussion has been dead because it basically can't be done to this enigine (already a stroked 1.8L 4G93 )
To "answer" your question: no one has successfully swapped ANY engine into a US lancer to date. There have been problems with general fitment, tranny mating, ECUs (which included problems with sensors and such), starter motor locations, wiring, piping, etc.
The main issue, as I see it, with the 2.4L Mivec is that it's a variable timing motor. The ECU for a G94 won't know what to do to switch over the cam (so the popular "I'll just swap the head" argument won't really work). I suppose it's possible to bring the ECU over as well, but that will still involve wiring up a bunch of new systems. There's also the issue of availability. There may have been something on eBay, but I don't remember for sure.
I know that the closest swap to date was Illuminati's and he had paid over $5000 in just labor for his Evo 6.5 swap (the engine was another $3K IIRC). They fabricated new mounts and milled out a new bell housing for his tranny. We don't know what happened, this was in January and the thread was cosed because the guy could never produce anything more than a bad photochop. The shop promised him 10 days for he swap, tops (I guess they were used to Honduh swaps)
So give it some serious thought. Your first "mod" should probably be to find a shop that is expert in Mitsus and discuss with them the potential pitfalls.

That RPW is in Austraila precludes them from being a shop that can do this swap. I meant someone local that has actual experience with at least DSM swaps, if not actual Mirage or Lancer swaps. RPW encourages this type of behavior
but a local shop may be more pragmatic about it and tell you that cams and some engine building are cheaper and nearly as effective as trying to swap the block.
