Engine ECU Questions

What companies out there make a 'chip' for the stock ECU on the 2003 CG Lancer??

Only have RPW CAI and RPW RD extractors with full exhaust and don't want/need a full piggy back ecu. Not looking at tunning it any further, just want something that will have a better fuel/ignition map so it runs sweet with the exhaust and cai.

Oh I'm in Australia as well, would a chip 'tuned' for the US models run properly on an Australia spec model??

They sell a piggyback witn no tunning required. 91 octane gas or better.
It is expensive but also the best without any tunning. A lot of people here say it is one of the best bolt-ons for a Lancer.

Or

You can go and check out JET Performance ECU. You send them your ECU and a list of your mods and they will tune it for you and send it back. They also have a piggyback chip but I don't know anything about it. Send a PM to 'Kamikazi', 'DRC Imports', 'Lancer_2uner', they use Jet's chip.

Off topic: Can you post some reviews of the products from RPW??? RPW C.A.I. what's so special about it? FSE Fuel Pressure Regulator, and the short shifter?
It would be helpful

i'm not too confident about a US tuned piggyback on an aussie lancer. back to octance difference, their tune might be different. there's a few canucks complaining that they felt nothing with the RRM piggyback, and they're practically next door.

i haven't really come across any great reviews on a jet unit. i'd much rather trust a lancer specific tuner. RPW has a pretty good forum that could probably lend a hand, or you can ask them to throw you a baseline map for a management unit or something. if you want to tweak timing AND fuel, then you're gonna be spending quite some money as most units will only handle fuel.

if you go for a true reflash, it's not gonna come cheap as the first RRM units where reflashes and were around $700, i think. i admit though that it had great features like fuel, ignition timing, and a raised rev limiter. that was 2 years ago. they're using fuel piggybacks now.

If you're in Australia, just give RPW a call, they know everything about the Lancer/Mirage and can point you in the right direction if they don't have what you are looking for.

With just those mods I'd just reset the ECU. I don't think I/H/E mods are more than the stock ECU can handle. If you actually want it tuned I'd recommend shaking your aversion to piggybacks, but that's ultimately up to you. If you wanna give us the part # of your ECU we can try comparing it to US ECU's. I'm still curious if the alleged Cali spec ECU's in US Lancers have definable visible differences from national spec ECU's.

FSE's fuel pressure regulator is the only one that I know that is rising rate NA. 1.7:1 if I am not mistaken. I had it for the Mirage in days of aspiration and it was nice. Their short shifter is also EXCELLENT. It is the only one that I know that reduces throw in between the long gears as well (2 - 3, 4 - 5). Most of the ones here just do it between the short gears (1-2, 3-4) like the B&M units and the Revo units.

RPW Shortshifter: is brilliant, huge difference in throw

RPW C.A.I: (i have stainless) Is a bit of a pain to install, may have to cut it a little to get it to sit where you want it but it makes a difference up top in the rev range. Prob not the greatest stand alone mod, will come into it's own though with other changes like headers, full exhaust, T/B bore etc. Well worth it if you are to do a few mods!

FSE F.P.R: Also not a great stand alone mod, but is needed if you are to go with the C.A.I and header/exhaust system. Will improve throttle responce with these other mods in place.

RPW RD Extractors: Tell you next week, get them installed with new exhaust this week!! Can't wait...

Other mods worth getting;

Whiteline (www.whiteline.com.au) Front strut brace and adjustable rear sway bar 18-20mm (stock on VRX/OZ is 15mm) The rear sway bar has to be the best money I have spent on the car so far, unreal how the car handles now!

WORKS is supposed to be making one for the lancer es/ls/oz soon. Its a direct replacement brain flash for the ECU. Contact them. When I talked to them about a week ago, they needed someones ECU for 2 months to be able to develop the thing. If its anything like the one for the Evo, its gonna be awesome.

The Whiteline suspension parts are sold here as Progress parts I believe. I would have sent them my ECU, but I just sold it so...no dice.
