^No

You are changing the timing of the camshaft not the ignition timing.

will that be "No, I don't need to re-tune the ECU" or "No, the cam gear adjustment alone will not be enough". I just want to make clear.

Thanks for the answer. Much appreciated.

You said you have a pair of cams coming. Are you an Evo owner? We only have 1 SOHC and thus for you the answer might be yes you need the ECU retuned.

No, you don't need to re-tune the ECU. If you will install it will work fine. If you want to get the most out of it you might want to adjust couple of things.

The Subaru seems slightly better built. However, it is also slightly smaller. Which doesn't mean a lot until you have people in the back. It sticks to the road a little less than the Evo, but it's really more a different characteristic rather than a lack of performance.
Just as I thought....Here an excerpt from one of his other posts. He has an EVO.

Check in the EVO tuning forums for info on the cam gears, cams and their effects on ECU tuning.

Thanks guys,

Just to clarify, the cams are Tomeis Poncams for the Evo. It's meant to be here already, but my trip the Japan has been delayed so they're still sitting with my friend (lives there) waiting for me to pick them up.

I was sure this has been covered somewhere but my searches seem to turn up nothing much to do with it. Most of the time, people just mention 'tuning' after cam installs.

N/P

I like to read all over the board to see what types of modding trials and trib's people have. It all depends on what cam profile you are going to be running. If I remember correctly the EVO aftermarket cams have 264-272-etc profiles. The higher the number the more likely you will need some type of piggy to run them. I think alot of the guys run a combo for intake and exhaust.

I'm sure you'll find that info though.

Goodluck.

Just some feedback on that Arospeed cam gear.... I have had an RPW camgear sitting in my closet now for close to two years. Just have never got around to degreeing it, partially out of laziness and partially out of the expected arrival of an RPW stage 3 camshaft.

Nonetheless, the Puerto Rican boys and a couple fast miragers up here swear by those. So I guess they cant be all that bad.

what are the long term effects of cam gears? how do they serve your engine life over lets say 50k+....also do you need anything to monitor this or can you just adjust it on a dyno leave it at that setting and then your good to go?

You can just leave the setting and go.

Long term effects? They spin the engine long term. If they're lightweight cam gears, they'll make your engine spin easier long term. No harmful effects.
