i got a recall notice too, but it doesn't say anything about the cat or emissins. when i called mitsu they said it is ONLY an ECU reflash. is this the same recall as the warm-up cat one? and if so, why didn't they say they are replacing my cat as well?

Sorry OT: Hey Andrew, have ever been to Walker's Renton Mitsubishi? Because the shop foreman there told me that he serviced a turbo Lancer before.

I think they're trying to get cheap. All i got is a reflash too. no changes on the cat converter. but then my CEL came on after 70 miles. Went back to dealership and they say 2 sensors in the exhaust area(prolly sensors on header and cat) are f*&) up. I almost paid 88 bucks if the reason of CEL is not their fault. People today try to get money out of you by checking your CEL. So I decided to buy my own OBD scanner or if possible go to autozone or other stores to get the error codes for free.

cat is damaged if CEL is on (probably if 02 sensor in it is malfunctioning just like mine). about the thing you hear, it's probably a silencer in your exhaust piping and i think cat has a silencer itself. it makes your exhaust piping silent. Meaning if you hear something under your car, something is loose. My downpipe silencer is loose creating a thump sound whenever i start my engine. It's all rusted even the bolts. part pf the reason why i wanted to upgrade my piping and downpipe

how many miles do you guys have on your cars for your 2nd cats to go bad..

GHAST:
if you go buy a 18mm spark plug anti fouler for like 3 bucks from a parts store drill it out and use it as a spacer between your sensor and your second cat reset your computer .. i bet your CEL will go out for ya!!

it backs the sensor out a little so that it is not reading a majority of the richness/leaness in the exhaust. caused by the most basic mods.. i did it a year ago when i got my kamikaze header and it turned ot off .. and it stayed off for the remainder of the time that i had the header on there..

Do you know what you are talking about? It was one thing when you were spouting your mouth off about your "testing" but now you are spreading misinformation. The Cat does not have a silencer. There are many reasons why the CEL might be on. And what the hell is a downpipe silencer? Someone please tell me I'm not going nuts. This guy is crazy.

A silencer is typically something placed on the inside of the muffler to help to repress the sound generated by the exhaust. Cats, Downpipes, Headers, and small furry animals have one thing in common... they don't have silencers inside them. Those metal shrouds act as heat sheilds, as they heat up quite a bit... they have nothing to do with silencing or muteing sound. If anything they will rattle if they aren't tight giving many older cars a rasping sound at particular RPMs.

If you think i am wrong then prove me wrong. Stock silencer are metal wrapping around stock pipes reducing vibration when gas exits. I know what you mean about aftermarket silencers. tell me what the stock piping looks like. there hundreds of possibilities how cel can come on. But the person specifically said that how can you tell if catalytic converter is malfunctioning. I can't tell him go under and take a look. Our stock piping has metal covering some parts and they're not for show. Have you ever seen a silencer in a stock exhaust? no. aftermarket ones? yes . I have TSB manual for the lancer and they call them silencers. It's not my fault if it similar name to aftemarket.

probably that's the best way to do it. there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism, nothing will be gained if you bash other people. you can't change people. even if i'm wrong, at least i have the guts to answer. if i don't answer who will? did you ever feel bad if you ask question to hundreds of people and no one answered? i have positive intentions not negative ones. correct me whenever i'm wrong because i'm a human after all but at least have some respect to people who're trying to help others, not just sitting around putting up negative criticism on others. if you can't respect youself, at least respect others, otherwise you'll look bad
