I was just wondering when you put the square to cylinder adapter on why didn't you bolt that on to the MAS witht he gasket in between. I t sounds like you used twisty ties to hold it on. Wouldn't the stock bolts have been the things to use? And what was the use of the duct tape again, i missed all that with the 1/8" lip and same OD and removing a 1/4. Just clear that up if you can man thanks.

The stock bolts would have been better, except that I couldn't figure out a way to get them to stay on this adapter. The edges of the adapter line up almost perfectly with the holes for the bolts. My first lame attempt to adhere the bolts to the plastic adapter failed miserably. Had it worked there still would have been a gap between the adapter and MAS from the bolt heads. So, I drilled little holes in the sides and used some wire as if it was a twist-tie to squish the gasket material, the silicone and the adapter to the MAS.
The duct tape. There is a lip on the round part of the adapter; ostensibly so you can use a hose clamp to keep the hose attached to this adapter. To make the entire cylinder uniform in diameter I used duct tape and built up the wall. But, I didn't want to build up the lip, too. So, I cut 1/4 of the width off of the strips of tape and then wrapped them around the adapter. This built up the wall so the rubber neck of the FRAM filter had something the "grab" onto and would keep dirty air from bypassing the fins and getting in anyway.

yeah i think i understand now, b/c i went to home depot and found that adapter thing and i see that there is no way to drive bolts thru there b/c it lines up. then when it comes to making the twist ties and gasket i wonder how it says solid and what not and that gasket doesn't move. Did you just plug all the holes wherte the wire is with silicone, and made the tight fit with the duct into the circle part of the adapter? overall i just want to know how it turned out? is it powerful like a good difference? Cuz i might just say **** it and go for the rrm one or an injen one with a heat shield, and then put a hood scoop in. but good job on that **** dude, i feel like i want to tackle this job because i myself am studying engineering. Exactly. Filled all the gaps with silicone and made the filter fit tightly with the duct tape. gains are noticeable, at least the same as you'd get from one of those kits with the smaller filter. Sure, not as pretty with AEM all over your engine compartment, but you can say "check this **** out dude! Made it myself." And the filter is impressively huge. If I can scam my brother's digital camera again I'll take some more pics for ya'.
And come on- you gotta do this! Why spend all that money when you can make it yourself with a little creativity and planning? It'll take you as much time to build this one from scratch as it will to figure out how to use the bracket that comes with other SRI kits. Forget about cutting a hole in your hood for a scoop- just keep using the stock air ram. Using the hand thermometer (kinda like the butt-dyno) there's a huge difference in temp when you use the stock ram.
For everybody else: I'll keep you posted as I try to vent air from the front fender scoops up to the filter... so far the problems are: the sharp bends needed inthe vent hose and cleaning the vent chamber out when it fills up with debris and rain.

To keep the vent that you are making clean, if you plan on never putting back in your old filter, is to cut apart the old filter and use some of the paper material from that, OR you can go to an auto parts store and find some material that thats sometihng like cotton.. I think they have it around the fuel filters and stuff... I'll have to go to the auto place around here and get you a name of the stuff. I think it should filter air without letting in any debris... just might not work cause of rain. Can always just put screening in front of the intake portion... like screen from a house screen door or something... thats really small mesh and should block a good bit of debris, but still have water problems

Water's always a problem here in Sea-town. And I had this bizarre visual of this watery, sandy muck flying out of the vent and splattering all over the car in front of me when they stopped short.
I tried to fit some flexible metal dryer hose from the vent to the filter. The hose sits below where the plastic skid plates would be... and mine are kinda scratched up (thankyou lowering springs
) I'm of the opinion that the hose would become a sacrifice and eventually would fall out on the freeway or end up with a hole in it and not vent air anyway.
Might end up trying something like booyah's GODCAI to force air from the undercarriage to the filter. I'll keep everyone posted (I'm sure you care
