Super Ghetto SRI
Super Ghetto SRI
What if... now hypothetically speaking here... we took off the intake scoop (the part that gets the air from the outside) left that hole that it attaches to wide open. might have to get crafty and cut it off.. but wouldnt it be a knock off SRI? i mean all the air it could want could just rush in now... instead of being forced down a channel... specially when the car is at a stop and your gunning at a light... it would take in more air.... lets think abou this... as a cheapo mod...
please refrain from this crap-------> "You could just go buy a SRI"
well i dont wanna... yet

the "scoop" just pulls off...... no need for cutting...... drop a K&N filter in it. that alone will help..... I would think it would be worse without the snorkal kinda scoop since the hole where it enters the air box is about the same size..... and you wouldnt be getting as cool air.
again, take some wire cutters to the rivets on the inside of the air box and remove that crappy little funnel that's in there. then get a snorkel from a RA. you'll need to trim off a piece from the front/entrance side, and drill 2 new holes. then add a drop in filter. tadaa.
well i just went and got educated from a true mech... my dad... and he let me have it good... the engine bay is sealed theres a negative pressure in there when the car is over 50 mph cause the scoops under the car force air AWAY from the bottom.. a drop in filter with no air into the bay is a problem... hate to break it to all you SRI fans.. but whats gotta be done is a full on SRI... just like you see it.. pipe and filter... then.. take the OEM scoop... cut it off at the first taper point... so it rams air into the bay in the direction of your SRI... thats the only way your gunna really boost your performace.. and gas milage... education for your a$$es
Education for OUR asses?
Who's the one trying to get better performance by removing an air duct?
Do what Rhyzin said and improve the flow of your snorkel and your air box OR Try venting from the front drivers side vent up to the SRI and watch your intake air temps drop over 30 degrees.

I just got rrm's SRI and dont have a snorkal.
It has to pull air from somewhere. Although it might not be the coldest with the snorkal. By having an evo hood and venting through the hood you are pulling hot air out of the engine which is pulling colder air in replacing it. that would improve colder air flow to the SRI!?!
any tips to fab some kinda snorkal in with a sri like rrms? Dont meen to steal thread. all questions kinda pertaining to same thing.

it was a joke really... cause im still pretty new to my lancer... and im cheap... most of my cash goes into my stereo or lighting... just lookin to cut a corner and get some more air in there... get more detailed with the whole drivers side ventage issue there...
Yeah.. i was lookin at that pvc hose idea... i havnt actually taken a good look into the car yet to see where i would rout it or the diameter of the hose... but i think all that would really need to be done is not a super long pipe set up right to the air filter... i think you will get better performance actually if you take a pipe from EACH fog light and aim it up into the compartment...
2 reasons.
1: keeping the engine bay even half a pound over the outside pressure will allow air to rush in.. providing ample air for your airfilter to take at will.
2: the engine itself will get cooler... the way the underside of the car is designed is to rush air from the inside of the bay... out. so if theres air TO rush outside.. you have a constant cycle of cooler air for both your engine and air...
everyones happy.... im gunna run to the home depot
