Another Intake Thread

Sike.

I don't know if this will make a noticeable difference but it was fun makin and looks kind of cool so I don't care. Not like I was expecting it to put 40 fwhp down or anything.

It's just a huge round K & N filter, cheapo MAS adapter plate, aluminum flashing and tek screws. For now it is somewhat a prototype. Planning on redoing and improving once I get the garage clean enough for winter weather car work. Still debating on whether or not to try to improve it or buy the RMR SRI. I like the look of the RMR. With some work I hope to turn this into a true ram air and maybe find a way to have a hole close when I am accelerating and open at idle or something.

Still a rough draft and I may improve on it. My measurements were a little off on the air tube hole due to the box not sitting the way I had designed and was a little too tall. It is a complete enclosure, not air tight yet, may not ever be, has more or less a gaping hole in the back. I figured the back hole wasn't too big of a deal due to the heat being originated from the headers anyway. So bear with me:

Very nice idea, I'd love to see a vendor (cough RRM) offer something like this.

Haha I know there's would be kick @ss compared to mine. They can have my little box thing if I get a discount on the end result hahaha.

I got some rattling noise from it when accelerating and put a wire conduit around the cutout the MAS fits in on the back to keep it from rattling and moving around, and the sound is gone. It sounds a little louder in the box now due to probably acoustic resonance. The blue jeans/Vans dyno says it feels smoother at 3000 up. Feels like it breathes a little better.

I bought a universal 3" air duct adaptor forever ago and thinking about installing it towards the bottom by the radiator to pull air in form in between the radiator fins and force the air into the box if I choose to redo and enclose it really air tight.

Well, after all the storms we had Sunday I have finally gotten things to where I can work on it now. Plan on getting in back in the garage and getting a somewhat finalized/air tight version. Planning on running air duct from the radiator fins up to the bottom of the box and sealing off the factory snorkel hole with the air funnel inside. More pictures later.

The only I can think of that would make it better is having an extension that goes down to the ground, and using a CAI instead of a SRI. Another possible is using a SRI but having a snorkel come up from a lower part of a car.

Yeah I was thinking about putting a 3" more or less MAF adaptor on the bottom right side of the radiator on the inside of the hood. Running the air up to the bottom of the box. Depending on how well air can find its way through the fins. I might use air duct for now and later on get an actual polished aluminum pipe that I just have laying around.

I already have, this is just me messing around for winter time. Mixed with the fact that I finally have the garage cleaned out and can do stuff in there. Plus like Amby said I will also get around to making another box to fit down behind the grill for the CAI. To keep the air from just rushing over and past the filter to maybe stop in the back of the box to force more air back and forth over the filter.
