Im working on setting up my own exhaust system right now, what headers are you guys using and has anyone found any problems with the Magnaflow cat-back that RRM sells ?

If not that then how does a resonator improve mileage?

I hope it keeps up so I can make back some of that money that was wasted with the higher gas prices. I'm not complaining at all.

i believe that the stock resonator is not straight through as the one that you just had put on, so that opened up the exhaust, which should have caused better gas mileage. i dont think that an exhaust leak would have much effect on our cars, unless you are turbo'd, or producing a fair amount of power.

i know reading comprehension is hard... but he had a straight through exhaust setup... so he DID NOT have a resonator on before he put on this straight through one.

The reason your resonator could give you better gas milage is as follows. You went from a straight through pipe to a resonator which you said was bumpy inside. There are two common designs of straight through resonators, perforated core and louvered core. The perforated core is more common on higher end mufflers like magnaflow and it is a core with holes drilled through it. Louvered cores are found in less expensive mufflers and are made by punching holes instead of drilling them. These punches leave the bumps you saw and can cause a significant amount of back pressure. If you had too little backpressure an increase in backpressure can gain you gas milage.

Shweet!!!

Sounds good to me!! get it?

Honestly though, I'm loving the sound and as far as I can tell there is no difference in performance.

Well if felt like a Seinfeld episode but I tried to run around town until I had to put in gas. I gave up at 350.5 miles or so which let me fill up with 10.198 gallons. That's 34.35 miles per gallon. I wish I could have stayed on the highway to see where I would eventually have gotten all highway miles but 350 is the most I have gotten on a tank ever.

Man, no internet sucks..... congrats that one problem was solved, the problem of noise. But you added 30 more pounds making you heavier in our competition .....

I had bot h Apex'i mufflers and had little problem with either. The NA version when I was aspirated was neither loud at cruise nor ricey, but it did growl when I got on it. Then turbocharged, I went with the Apex'i turbo with a silencer and it was the same deal. Quiet on cruise and deep not too loud bark on WOT. Too bad this RA has this loud ricey POS muffler and I wont spend money on it.

Put the silencer back in.

It sounds good with that piece in. I didn't have that option as you know but I atleast got to realign the muffler perfectly in the oz bumper.

Hey I'm bringing this back again for a question I had but didn't want to start a whole new thread about. I have the RRM axleback exhaust without any other exhaust mods. I want to quite it down for now and I have a huge Greddy resonator sitting in my shed that I bought a year ago from RRM.

Could I weld a 2.25 greddy resonator into my stock exhaust pipe?

Would this decrease the sound of the axleback?

Thanks!

PS- I know the axleback isn't that loud, but I do a lot of city driving. When my exhaust heats up it gets louder, and going from each stoplight with a hot exhaust is frustrating with the windows down. Most people would probably like the soft note it has, but I'm getting sick of having an exhaust at all. I would get a used stock axleback, but can't find one. And putting junkyard exhaust on your car is going to cause leaks.

Simple enough, I'll get to it when I get back in town. Thanks!

I do believe the stock piping is much smaller than your 2.25 Resonator inlet/outlet.

I guess a skilled muffler tech might be able to rig something up however.

Good luck.

Hmmm I was wondering about that. I'm clueless about welding large pieces of metal together considering I'm an urbanite with my street in front of my house as my only garage. I'm also considering upgrading the whole pipe to 2.25 and welding in the resonator, although with the added width that may bring me back to where I began. But... with some more power. eh, not much power. I'll give it the irritated lancer owner shrug and see what my mechanic says
