Yeah, yelling search is starting to get old. When the n00bs search, they just get a string of threads that have people yelling search, and the actual information is like 87000000 threads in. We need to just start answering folks simply with accurate info.

That is how I see it too now. People were a lot more friendly a year or 2 back on this forum.

You mean before the Evo broke and a million people found this site and started asking the same questions we were answering back in 2002?
Or before Boe (defending your honor Rob? ) and GP (arguing on behalf of RIPP because he gets off on it) got in their ongoing catfight?

Yes, there are a few people who NEED a good smacking once in a while or need a timeout. Warrtalon is (was?) a good example, and the Boe/GP BS went on waaaaay too long with no one doing anything... so now, the mods who didn't do their jobs in the first place resort to "policing" the boards. God forbid somone have an opinion once in a while that doesn't make everyone feel like they're being hugged by their mom and drinking hot chocolate. What this boils down to is, instead of trying to get the new people off on the right foot by making them read a FAQ before they can post, we just institute absolute "rules" that once and for all turns this place into a kindergarten.

Before you tell me that if I don't like it I don't have to visit you can check my postcount for the past month, it's roundabout zero and my visit count is almost as high.

Being a total noob, can I add my worthless .02? J/K I found this thread interesting, being a noob and guilty to some degree of the aforementioned crimes. Y'all still seem nice, helping folks. Another forum, similar to this but not about cars I am a member of. (grammer) This was support forum for a indy game from england. anyhoo. my point is what you speak of seems like a challenge for any type of forum. You have your standard key members and lots (and sometimes LOTS) of floaters in like me. Noobs lookin' for info. Granted I haven't read any real old threads, but you don't seem nearly as nasty as this place was. And these were people (noobs, stupid or not) who had purchased the products.

With any large, commonly used forum such as this often times unless you know the proper search phrase, or key phrase, it can be a long, long, tedius task. Not that it isn't working for, but I consider myself moderately intelligent. I have a 96% percentile reading comprehension. I have often spent hours trying to search for the specific information to one particular question. (ok mebbe not here)\
Some places, I guess are so bad you're afraid to ask what you know IS a unique, or particular question not answered from searching. Here it at least doesn't feel like six bouncers throwing you out the door when you ask a (somewhat) relentless question. I thank you for that

Et tu, Kris?

What exactly do you expect of us? I don't want to start another war here, but c'mon.

Boe and GP have both been banned. Should we permaban them to make you happy? Warrtalon isn't long for the boards at the rate he's going.

What do you want - a kindergarten or a police state? We shoot for a happy medium. I'm sorry if you don't like it around here. We appreciate having you here, as you're one of the 5 most knowledgeable Lancer tuners.

Bottom line - I'm sorry if you don't like the way things are. But we do our best.

Modding is hard work and I heard they have not got a raise lately but I am the first to say that the search thingy doesn't always yield answers I am looking for. At least members can direct better by saying ... It is in BlaBlaBlah thread I think.

Yeah... that's why I sort of changed my approch in regards of the search thing. I'm now trying to... still ask the person to search but answer the question at the same time(with as much info I can provide from the top of my head)

Yes, that's the right idea. Encourage them to search, but quickly answer it. It's something HobieKopek has really perfected lately.

"Hey, we have a great board and if you use search you might find something useful. But since you asked about the RRM header, here's the answer......"

Then the next n00b might actually find something once they search.

i'm kind of glad to see this issue being addressed i feel bad for a lot of these newbs that get burned cause they didn't search first...i mean sometimes it is really redundant but sometimes it is pretty legit i used to be afraid to post when i was still a newb in fear of being hounded.
