It could simply be that your clutch is gettin old and cant handle full throttle power transferring anymore.

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've gone through this list and am at the point of addressing more of the fuel system. I've replaced the injectors with cleaned and flowtested ones with new seals, no leaks. I didn't notice much of a difference here. I replaced the coil packs with the OBX ones (one of my packs was giving me a lot of feedback in my sound system, that's fixed now), these came with the 8mm wires and new boots. Plugs look good, but changed them to the Bosch 4-prong platinums.

New pcv valve, no vacuum leaks (but I went and replaced all the lines with silicone vacuum lines to be sure), new egr valve, and use injector treatment regularly (every other tank now, was doing every tank for about a year).

SO, my issue is when I let off the gas the car stutters, this also happens when I let off the gas to shift. Almost as if it's going to die. I'm going to do a log in evoscan to see if I can determine if it's fuel related, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I'm at the point where I have a hunch it might be the FPR, the vacuum looks fine, but I'm leaning towards replacing this with the adapter plate and an Ebay fpr with a guage instead of blowing $70 on another stock one.

Any opinions or advice?

Today my 02 oz lancer was missfiring, changed the plugs.... no difference. I then checked all the vacuum lines, nothing out of the norm. I then scaned the codes and cylinder 2 was missfiring. I pulled each boot out one by one while running the car,(and yes shut down the car after each pull and install of the coil lines) and come to find out the spark plug boot on cylinder 2 was arching (grounding itself out), I noticed a white mark on the end of the boot, I threw some electrical tape around the end and blam, back to normal. So I will be getting a new boot. Hopefully this helps.

DONT use an ebay fpr. I made that mistake and I didnt even leave it on my car for one full day. My car would lean out really bad when I stabbed the throttle as the crappy fpr's diaphram could not keep up and it would take a full second or two for the fpr to bring the fuel pressure up and richen up my afr's. I would just as soon go find an fpr at a junkyard before getting ebay one. Just my $.02

There's nothing wrong with getting one on eBay. It's only a problem when the buyer fails to research the item or ask the seller questions about what they're going to purchase or if it'll even work.

Correction, there is not a problem with buying a known good quality fpr off ebay. jwick stated he was going to buy an "ebay" fpr rather than $70 on another stock one. Likely this means just some off brand fpr. I was just helping to steer him away from a possible issue from this.

Btw I do research, I do alot of research and asking questions on everything I buy. The one I purchased was supposed to be a rising rate adjustable base pressure fpr. I was told it meets or exceeds the specs of my oem fpr. I can only go off of what I am told by the sellar , what I find in feedback and any research through forums and other sites about the specific product I am looking at. Sometimes you get burned sometimes you dont. Luckily my success far outweighs the times I get burnt which is why I do still purchase online and off ebay. Just not "ebay" brand (aka no name brand) items off ebay

I would check your mass air flow sensor as well. I had moisture seep into mine and subsequently had the Same gasps. Replaced the MAF and the pearls running well with just over 150,000...05 OZ

never even got to the FPR. My wife smashed the car into a curb/snowbank and took it out for almost a year (couldn't do insurance, as she just smashed the jeep a month prior...oi. got her new glasses, we're all good). Car is back on the road, replacing the IACV soon. Had arcing with boots, replaced. Think I have a timing issue from when I got my crank and camshaft seals replaced...but wouldn't this be all the time misfire, not just above 3500rpm?

I have heard nothing but bad things about the obx coil packs, I would stick to factory ones. Also our cars call for iridium plugs, not platinum. I have no first hand experience with either of these but I'm at almost 100k miles and a few track days and fairly hard driving on stock coil packs and only using iridum plugs, still runs great.

My car never ran better than when I had it running some champion spark plugs... lol they were real cheap too like a dollar a plug.
