Air intake for Automatic
turbonator
I also believe these throttle body spacers or whatever are crap. HOWEVER... the local news here in Orlando did do a story several months ago, it was one of the ones that affects air intake, (not a throttle body spacer) and they actually did notice slight gains. Enough for me to admit I bought one? No way!
erikocc . . . youre right more people certainly could, but aside from wanting name brands like was said above alot of people also dont want to take the time to fabricate something that will work and be reliable, and then on top of that you have the "looks" catagory. Alot of people simply dont want something in their engine bay that looks like it came from the dump or the discard pile at home depot. Personaly i spent a decent amount on an Injen SRI. Ya it was costly but at the time i had to pass CA smog and its the only one i could find that came with a lovely little smog exempt sticker
speaking of smog, what would cause a problem for that? i know that taking out a cat or exhaust will be no good, but would an intake cause your car to be illegal? how about headers or something else. also, do high capacity cats or whatever they're called produce more than the legal limit of smog??
I have never known, andit would be nice to know...

ok what you need to know ahead of time is that CA is INSANE when it comes to the smog regulations. ANYTHING involving the intake or emissions has rules in CA. Some places will be cool and let and aftermarket intake pass but more or less any kind of aftermarket header or exhaust is gonna get you to fail smog. The only exception is parts that come with a smog exemption sticker. VERY few companies offer those. When they test you for smog first they do a visual test, then they hook your car up to a computer and check everything from timing, to idle speed, to emissions at three different speeds. Trust me when i say its a B*TCH!
I second that. I had a teacher in school that lived in CA and he told us that officers are allowed to open your engine and have it towed if they SUSPECT anyone of tampering with intake/exhaust/emissions.
I have the K&N typhoon SRI. It comes with everything you will need to install. The directions are perfect. If you can't follow them then you probably just can't read or aren't good with pictures.
mitsuman6 does the k & N SRI Work Well? do u have any installed pics of it ? try to get some. what i was thinking maybe the short ram would work as good as a cold air as long as its close to the grill of the car as possible and has a good heat shield doesnt it work that way? have u guys taugth of the greddy filters the ones that are round and yellow i hurd does work well

It's the first blue one from the top.
It says it's a cold air intake, but it's style is short ram? Hmmph.
I've noticed a lot of wires coming from various places on my stock intake. Where will those go once my intake is on? I know about the 02 sensor, but there are like three other sets of wires all plugged in to my intake..
Are the instructions, that hopefully are in the box, able to be read and understood by the somewhat unexperienced? Or should I get my pockets emptied and have it installed professionally?

that intake isn't for a lancer
imo i wouldn't order anything from that site, they have tons of things mislabeled. for one, that's a short ram intake, and second, most of those don't even fit the car it's labeled for.
the wires you're talking about are going to your mass air flow sensor ( MAF ) be careful when removing your stock intake box & tubing because you don't want to damage the MAF, it will be staying on your new intake. ( the o2 sensors arn't anywere near your intake, one is on your exhaust manifold and the other is on the catalytic converter )
the install itself is very easy, just make sure you don't damage your MAF. and keep your stock parts to put back on when you sell your car.
I have the injen SRI, it's a great intake and all, but if I could rewind, I would just go ahead and buy the road race motorsports one. it's just as good as any other sri on the market, and pretty cheap too.

oh crap... now I gott a dig through my trash can!
oh well. I thought there might be SOME reason to save that junk..... more to add to the junk, and not trash, pile... thanks for the tip on saving the original parts. oh and BTW I have also found RRW's intake to be priced quite cheap. Interesting side note, a similar k&n kit for my 01 tacoma costs 2x as much! I wonder why, as it is not as new of a vehicle?
