NSC Engine Damper Review
NSC Engine Damper Review
Ok so i cant remember if anyone posted a topic on this before but i figured id post a new one anyway. I just installed North Star Creations engine damper for an 02 Lancer OZ Auto.
On a scale of 1-10, 1 being easiest, this was maybe a 2-3. All you really need is a 13,14,15mm socket. Goes in quick and easy.
As far as performance goes for the 73$ bought and shipped id say its a REALLY good buy for Auto guys. It smoothed out the shifts CONSIDERABLY and it also seemed to have improved the higher RPM range as far as smoothness and usability goes. I can hardly feel it shift now where-as before i could def feel it. And it used to feel like it would break up a bit around 5800-5900 RPM, its now strong and smooth till 6100 where it shifts. For money to worth 1- 10 (10 being a must buy) id give it an 8.
Where looks are concerned on a scale of 1-10 (10 being perfect) Id give it maybe an 7-7.5 Its functional and all, doesnt look like junk but its not going to win a beauty contest anytime soon. The cuts in the metal brackets are a bit rough and the red powder coat was a bit lumpy in places.
I can take pics if anyone would like but if youre an auto guy with an extra 75$ lying around id say pick up one of these guys. My only warning . . . expect to wait till hell freezes over. I paid for mine the same day i put the order in and i didnt see that part for OVER 7 weeks. I sent about 4 e-mails asking where it was and got 2 responses both with nothing definative. In there defense it did get here and it did do what they said it would. Overall Good Part!

I have an auto and at first it felt like it shifted faster but now from 1'st to second it sounds like it hitches or catches.... I would say its not worth the cash unless your putting down a lot of power. imo. There was another two threads on this tho.
well if it smooths out the gear change to me that is worth the money, my auto changes gear like a bloody mack truck.
well maybe its not that bad, but it would be nice if it was a little smoother. i might have to get one. for only $65 it couldnt hurt.
and i found the website

hmm.. interesting. Our engin shifts too much around when switching gears anyways. Also when at IDLE, in a auto, the engine moves alot more than any other engines i've seen.
So i'll look into getting these myself.

heres link to the other thread. 119 posts of info.. all reviews and info on it. Its in the ralli///art section but they are exactly the same..

Have had mine installed now for 3 days and all I can say is that I absolutely love this product. It works well with all my engine mods and my car shifts so much smoother. I highly reccomend this product for auto guys.
Well after reading the reviews, and with all the mods I have, and the way my engine moves around because of those mods, I just ordered mine a few minutes ago. Seven weeks should be a breeze after I just waited over two months to get my FPR from Vision Imports.
Well I got my NSC Damper and have installed it. Here is my review of the product:
GOOD:
The craftmanship was reminisent of what a 9th grader might do in shop class, such as:
GOOD:
- It has definately smoothed out the shifting on my auto tranny.
- Engine movement/vibration is minimal.
- RPM range has increased slightly, pulls harder and longer through RPM range in all gears.
- Definately has better acceleration.
- Basicly, it does what it is advertised to do.
- Very easy to install (if made correctly).
The craftmanship was reminisent of what a 9th grader might do in shop class, such as:
- The semicircle piece that bolts to the strut tower was cut by hand rather than stamped or machined, therefore, it was a very uneven cut and did not match the arc of the lip on the strut tower. SOLUTION: I had my maintenance man grind the edge smooth and to proper size as to fit atop the strut tower, and repaint.
- The piece that mounts to the motor was 1/8" thick and has substantial side to side flex. Now, the purpose is realy to stop front to back vibration, which it does, but I thought this part could stand to be a bit thicker.
- The motor mount piece is "L" shaped and made by mig welding two pieces of steel together at 90 deg. The weld had alot of splatter around it, which was painted over, and again 9th grade metal shop came to mind as far as the quality of the weld was concerned.
- The collar that was cut to fit in between the adjustment/tightening bolts on the connecting arm, motor mount to strut mount, had jagged edges and bures on both ends, at best a dull bandsaw blade but I suspect a hacksaw is more accurate perhaps.
- My motor vibration with the Damper installed is far more noticable than the video on the website, although, I think this may be attributed to my motor being more heavily modified than the demonstration motor.

yea i received mine a week ago. Yes, the craftsman ship is crap. To be done in a professional shop, the welds are horrible! My cousin is an apprentice and does better welds..lol But as long as it works i guess.... I didn't even pay that much for it so i'm good.

But like you said, and I said in my review, it does work, and it is under $100 so it is worth it. I wouldn't buy anything else from them though, and thats where they are hurting thierselves
