my car is screwed up

ok so i pulled my valve cover off, painted it, and put it back on.. now my car only fires on three cylinders, i found out it is the first cylinder on the left, i tested it for spark, it sparks.. i have no idea what the problem is please help!

replace gasket on valve cover and the sparks

i fixed it! the coils werent on right. i hope i didnt do damage to my engine... but yea now my check engine light is on... whys that

CEL is probabley from its orginial misfire because you dident have it cleared(try reseting it by pulling the battery cable for a little while), and what do you mean the coils were not on right? -The boots on the wires werent on all the way, you mix up a cylinder(though thatd leave you with only 2 firing) or what?

Was gonna say maybe a spark plug went bad, carboned tracked etc etc.
