question about auto lancers...
is it true that lancers with auto has 10 or more hp loss at the wheels?? coz i've made a search bout dynos and stuff and came about this guy who said that 'auto lancer already has lost 10 hp in the torque converter alone'...... can anyone verify this??? any educated answers maybe??? so if true then, auto lancers probly just have 93hp at the wheels????
So far as I know nobody's dynoed a stock AT Lancer. I doubt it though. That implies that NTran999's RRM turbo kit was actually putting out EVEN MORE HP at the flywheel than his already impressive numbers indicated. If there's any differences in loss at all I'm quite certain they're negligable.
i raced a 5 spd oz lancer and won in my 02 slushbox es. now i know an es is lighter than an oz and the kid drivin the oz probably didn't know how to drive and probably had 200lbs of stereo quipment, but i still won. I really doubt there is much loss of usable HP in an auto.
The major downside to the automatic tranny from my own experiences is that due to the gearing and the lack of a fifth speed your ability to accerlerate over 80 is greatly hindered by the lack of a fifth gear.

I guess there's no real need to be running over 80 for normal driving though so it shouldn't be a huge issue.

EDIT: Disregard my question. My reading comprehension skills suck today.
As far as the 80 MPH thing, I've caught myself cruisin' at 90+ in my 03 AT OZ. Didn't realize I was even going that fast. My only prob (not really a prob) with my OZ is I'd like it to come off the line faster, but it's totally stock and I bought it for the gas mileage. I'm sure I'm gonna do somethin to it though.
Automatics generally make less power than comparitive manuals. People also generally state to factor in a 15% loss for manuals, and 20% for autos (although I'm still not 100% sold on that percentage drivetrain loss deal). The main reason for loss is the torque convertor. We already know that energy doesn't just disappear and we also know that heat is our enemy when it comes to making real power. The torque convertor produces slip as it transfers power, which produces friction, which produces heat, which equals a loss in power. Torque convertors generally have radiators that help to dissipate the heat and hardcore racers will install transmission coolers to help keep the fluid temp down (as well as using lock-up convertors), but there is still heat loss involved. Now, with the lock-up torque convertor the power loss is not quite so severe as slip is minimised.

actually rrm's turbo kit includes sri.... and it will NOT only perform a bit better...... expect a LOT BETTER!!!!! ROCK said that they have tested a lancer with just a turbo (no test pipe and cat-back and all those other mods yet) and it ran 14's in a 1/4 mile.... with 171 whp at 5psi and about 203 hp at the crank..... so expect more than 200whp @ 7psi plus with all those other mods available now including NOS......
