Question How-To Cam install questions....

I have cam seals & tensioner tool on order. Is there anything else that’s necessary for a successful cam install?

Any advise is more then welcome & greatly appreciated .

Just a torque wrench, and all your basic tools.

Though it's not necessary, but how about an adj. cam gear?

Even an adj. cam can help you out with degrees of timing. Great for if and when you go turbo... and yes, replace the belts.

CAUTION: Always turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise).

Turn the crankshaft in the forward direction (clockwise) to align the timing mark so that No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke.

Secure the camshaft sprocket and the timing belt with tie wraps to prevent slippage between the camshaft sprocket and the timing belt.

Use the special tools MB990767 and MD998719 to stop the camshaft sprocket from turning.

CAUTION: Do not turn the crankshaft after the camshaft sprocket is removed.

Remove the camshaft sprocket.

Loosen the rocker arm and shaft assembly mounting bolt, and then remove the rocker arm and shaft assembly with the bolt still attached.

CAUTION: Never disassemble the rocker arm and shaft assembly.

Apply engine oil to the camshaft oil seal lip.

Use special tool MD998713 to install the camshaft oil seal.

Use special tools MD998719 and MB990767 in the same way as during removal to install the camshaft sprocket.

No problem. It's nice to have AllData at work. Almost as good as a manual, but not quite.
