Problem is, the engine seemed to be limited to about 6500 RPM???? WTF??

why not?

I have a fair answer for this, If somebody make a ECU for the car, and you put some parts on the car (cams, upgrade the head, pistons ......) you can REV the car higher, so If mitsubishi make the car with the tach , that only have from 0 to 6.5 K, then you will need an aftermarket RICER RPM gauge so you can read the RPM.

So thats why manofacturers (or what ever its the word hehe) make the tach to 2K more than the red line

I cannot believe this
DUDE did you have a car before??

Will your car rev to 6500 when in neutral? I'm wondering if there's a quirk with the CVT transmission models. Do cars with the MT have the same issue?

I tested mine out last night. 2nd gear with M/T and it rev'd to 6500K. Maybe something to do with the CVT, but I can't remember the revs when I test drove the CVT.

Well, I have the CVT and mine redlines at about 6,000; Also I've gotten my car up to about 120 MPH, won't really go anything above that. Just wanted to share my findings.

Yeah i got mine to 120 also, after like 100 it slowly slowly accelerates. Black, its gotta be something with the CVT because mine limits at 6k too.

Thanks for the info, folks. I guess I'm just surprised that doesn't mention that. They just say "redline is 6500" in all the press materials.

Otter - no, I'll try freereving it tomorrow and report back.

Well I've only had mine to about 100 so far, but the dated 5MT tranny doesn't seem to have a problem getting there (and probably further).

As for the CVT redlining at 6k, I dunno. It almost makes sense to me. When would you, whilst driving an automatic transmission, really need to push it past that? It's not like you're needing extra revs to offset shift time - and also, good possibility that revs higher than that could cause undue stress and premature wear of the belt.

good point. the cvt wasn't really made for 'racing'. so no need to redline, i'm sure its just a safetly feature for the car.

4500rpm limit in both neutral and park. So much for that test!
